I will be playing some new songs and some songs that fans have been asking me to play - songs like 'Know who you are' and 'Say Goodbye' and 'Soapbox Opera'.

Which are your favorites songs when playing live and why? I truly enjoy singing all of them. How was the experience playing with an orchestra and band? What can we expect this time? How will your band be this time? And the track list? I love playing with a band - and doing shows with an orchestra is always exciting but for me the most special is truly the solo shows. It is where I can have a deeper more intimate connection with the audience and sing from the most naked, honest place in my heart.

It is a very unique show, I don't know any other artist that does anything like it. Between myself and Aaron Macdonald, we make a very complete, big sound. For me, Music is the art of space and when you hear the songs in a more simplified way people tell me they are amazed at how deeply they are affected.

Did you ever imagine this when you were 20 or 40? For me, being an artist is not about age. I feel like I am in the prime of my life. I am older, I am wiser and I feel I have even more to give, having survived and learned from all the challenges and experiences that I've gone through. I am not wanting or needing a huge career, I am not wanting to be a star, I am truly just wanting to "give a little bit' back in gratitude for the wonderful life I have been blessed to have experienced and hopefully bring some joy and hope to people around the world.

I am amazing that my songs have stood the test of time so well and that I am now performing for three generations of fans. I could never have imagined when I was 20 or 40 that I would be touring today and feeling more fulfilled than ever. How about your voice? Your voice is so distinct and easy to recognize, How do you take care of it? I have never been disciplined with my voice. I have always tried to stay healthy - in my lifestyle, I don't drink or smoke but for me the most important place for me to stay healthy is in my heart for that is what people feel when I sing. What do you think about it?

When I heard that my former band-mates Rick Davies, Bob Siebenberg and John Helliwell were going out later this year on a Supertramp 40th Anniversary Tour, I offered to join them for a few special reunion concerts in response to the many requests from fans. The subsequent publicity however has created much confusion, as the public naturally expect to see and hear my songs and voice. So many have told me that in the past they went to the Supertramp shows expecting to hear my voice, and I was not there. So much of the public think of my voice as one of the trademark sounds of Supertramp and yet they are not familiar with the name of the singer - Roger Hodgson.

So when my photo or my voice is used to sell the Supertramp shows, it is confusing. I simply want to make it clear to the public that I am on my own World Tour. I wish Supertramp well, however at this time I will not be joining them at their shows in Spain. It is hard to think that far ahead. I know Rick wants to retire - and I feel like I'm just beginning.

So we'll see what the future holds. For the fans sake I would like to give them what they're asking - for me to join Rick onstage on this tour. It may be the last opportunity. So my offer to join him for a few special shows this fall is still on the table if Rick should change his mind. Norbert Fimpel , Argentinian saxophonist, has been an important support and a faithful friend of Roger Hodgson on his return to the stages in the late 90s, after more than a decade devoted to his family at his home in the mountains of California since leaving Supertramp in and suffered the fracture of both wrists the next year.

After the Roger's back to the music business with the tour and album "Rites you passage", with collaboration of John Helliwell, Supertramp saxophonist , Roger was promoting himself his album, and then he was touring South America late with a small band formed by a bass player and a drummer. It was in Buenos Aires where, thanks to the crazy idea of a local promoter, Roger met Norbert, and liked the collaboration, so Norbert joined the tour at that moment.

Years ago circa Norbert, while a graduate student of saxophone, had to replace his teacher in a concert with Alejandro Lerner. Since then Norbert was collaborating with Roger so far. And later, thanks to his collaboration with Roger in Night of the Proms in , contacted Joe Cocker who signed him for next tours so far.

Today, May Norbert continues touring with Joe Cocker year after year. Years ago he moved to Majorca, Spain, where he also participates in other musical projects of various kinds, both jazz and funky and Latin music for example. He has been kind enough to grant us a few minutes to tell us of his interesting adventures and projects. MAC - Hello Norbert, thank you very much for your time.

I think you're joining Joe Cocker in the States for a tour very soon, right? Norbert - Hi Miguel Angel, nice to see you again. I remember the "Night of the Proms" tour. You met Joe Cocker there, right? First we played 12 shows in Belgium and France in march. That same year, in october, november and december we did 50 shows in Belgium, Netherlands and Germany. It was an amazing experience. A huge production working like a clock. Everything was great and it opened a big door for me. I can remember at that time Roger didn't play many shows a year, and certainly Joe was able to offer you a longer tour, right?

Nevertheless, after joining Joe's band you still play for Roger when he needs it for a special event when Aaron is not available last time, few months ago in Valladolid, Spain. How are these gatherings with Roger and his songs? I love his music, always did. And, most important, I love Roger. A great and warm human being. How do you feel working with Roger? It is said that Roger is very perfectionist. Roger knows what he wants and I like that. It saves a lot of time ha, ha!! Yes, many times when I met him after a show, he commented some technical problems, or point me out a broken string on his guitar.

He's very professional, he's always aware of every little detail. But, in a certain way I see similar reactions on my friends musicians too. I mean, It's clear that performing for audiences requires professional attitude. Live show experience must be really different on stage than on the stands, always being aware of all the details, right? At the times you were touring with Roger, he used to tell to the audience the story about how you both met the first time in Buenos Aires during the tour in South America, and you joined his band from that moment.

Tell us the story He told me to be at the venue at 6 pm on the day of the concert and faxed me the songlist. I learned all the saxophone parts and solos and was at the place at 5: So, this guy came to me, and introducing himself said: Finally, Roger arrived and Lilo went to talk to him. Alter a short chat Roger went to stage and Lilo called me to join him. So we started playing a song, Roger liked it, then another, and another and so on.

That night I played with him and after the show he invited me to join him in the next 2 shows at the Coliseo theatre in Buenos Aires. I guess your life changed dramatically after that It changed but I guess more in a long term, with the European tour and Night of the Proms. When I came back from the tour with Roger I went on playing with Alejandro for 2 more years. I would say meeting Roger was a turning point in my career and opened a lot of doors for me. I'd like to tell you that I met Roger the previous year, in , Surprisingly for me, he came one day to Barcelona, near home, for a promotion of his new album.

Only a small bunch of people, sitting on the floor of a small show-room, everyone singing his songs together with him After so many years without hearing from him, that year I was very happy with the new album and to see him in person! I thought that life had given me a nice gift From the first moment at the soundcheck he made me feel very comfortable, with no pressure at all. He made it very easy for me. Do you remember what shows you performed on that tour , what kind of audiences and places?

From what I've seen in the videos and recordings from Argentina, Chile and others, the reception was nothing but apotheosis All the audiences in Southamerica were great, very warm. In Peru we played in an indoor arena. In Bolivia we played a football stadium. In Ecuador I remember police cars and motorcycles escorting us from the hotel to the venue, stopping the traffic like if we were the prime minister: I was really surprised to see the electronic drumkit Roland , although in those days seemed to be fashionable. Then electronic drumkits have disappeared from most bands and have been more confined to recording studios and electronic music bands.

I don't know if you paid attention on that, maybe you know the reasons perhaps easy transportation and settings? I remember the electronic drumkit perfectly but have no clue why they were using it at the time. After that tour, late , you didn't collaborate again with Roger Hodgson until late , right? Guess that was a very special experience for you I also was used to stand more in the background and maybe come to the front while doing a solo. But Roger placed me at the front, very close to the audience. Your memories about that experience and dealing with fans.

Live reviews

You looked very shy in those days Well, maybe because of this challenge I mentioned I was a bit nervous at the beginning. But nerves go away once the music starts. Roger fans treated me very well.

It was great playing with Bob, Jesse and Andrew. I must say we sounded great: So the day after arriving in Paris I went to a musical instruments store and spent 2 hours in a little room trying out different sopranos. I bought one and the next day used it in our first rehearsal and for the tour.. It catches my attention your new look after year , when I met you in at Night of the Proms.

It was an influence of Roger laughs or just the result of changes in your life? No money for haircuts ha, ha! My apologies, I'm an ignorant on the wind instruments. Technically, what are the differences playing for Roger and Joe? And, about the personal side?

Quédate (English translation)

Both Roger and Joe are gentleman and unique artists. I remember, over the years, in certain moment you started playing piano part in "School" song. Well, my instrument is definitely the saxophone, the one I studied for years. At least not yet ha, ha! Do you have any favourite song when you play for Roger and Joe? Any special theme for you In addition to working with Roger and Joe, are you working in other projects?

You told me something about other bands and even an album, right? There are 11 songs on the CD. I love that song: How did you start playing the saxophone or other instruments, and what were your influences? I grew up surrounded by music and the first artist I remember paying attention to was Louis Armstrong.

I used to go to my grandmother's house and sit at the piano for hours, trying to play the songs I liked and fooling around. I love the piano!

I started quiet late with the saxophone, at Before that I studied clarinet for 5 years.. When it comes to the sax Oscar Kreimer and David Sanborn where my first influences. Finally, when are you going to settle down and leave the music business laughs? Then I might start boxing or playing rugby: Well, Norbert, thank you very much again for your kindness.

We wish you all the best!!! Your story could be another typical story "being in the right place at the right time," but I firmly believe that good hearts, due to some weird reason, find each other.

Former Supertramp singer and songwriter Roger Hodgson has spoken exclusively to Undercover to explain his reaction in the past week to news that his former band-mate Rick Davies was going on tour as Supertramp without him and performing songs that he wrote and sang. In fact, Roger doesn't have an issue with Rick performing as Supertramp.

He just has an issue with his songs being played. Now in the context of the Supertramp tour, fans were taking that comment the wrong way. I just want to get that straight because it is obvious from the thousands of letters I have received over the years that fans do want us to reunite. I love the connection that I have with audiences in smaller venues like that. Roger again emphasised that he is happy for Rick to be playing live again but the pair had an agreement that Rick would get the name Supertramp and Roger would get his songs. To tell you the truth Paul, I would never have handed over Supertramp, I am not that much of a fool, to just hand over something I had put 14 years of my life into to Rick for nothing.

I really was the driving force in that band for 14 years. I remember very clearly the only thing I cared about when I gave Rick the name was that I would leave with my songs and my voice in tact. That would be my security. Unfortunately for Roger, that agreement was never in writing. I had been with Rick for 14 years.

Darkiel - I Won (Spanish Version) LETRA ✓

I thought that I could trust him. He honoured the agreement. Then 5 or 7 years later that is when he started to, for whatever reason, play my songs. I felt very betrayed. That is part of the reason Dougie Thompson left the band. There is action Roger could take. He now lives in California and under California law a verbal agreement is as binding as a written one.

Would he take Rick Davies to court over this? I stayed silent the last few times. Not silent to Rick. I definitely told Rick how I felt about it but I stayed silent to the public. Because of that I have had 6 or 7 or 8 years touring really trying to reclaim my songs as Roger Hodgson songs which really is what they are. Having witnessed a Roger Hodgson show just a few weeks ago in Melbourne Australia, I can endorse that you get the voice from the record by the man who wrote the songs at one of his show.

Roger also admits that Rick Davies is an amazing songwriter in his own rite. Obviously my songs have stood the test of time pretty well and I had most of the hits but most bands go out with only one or two hits. It just feels wrong. I am someone who tries to hang on to my artistic integrity.

I think in this business it is really difficult. There are all kinds of pressures from all kinds of directions and what I am really saying to Rick is encouraging him because I love him as a musician and composer. I am just encouraging him to hang onto his artistic integrity under a lot of pressure that he is probably getting from promoters and agents and managers and everything. It would make me into a cover band. He hated the song. I am not bitter.

When he heard about the tour he tried to see if he could participate, at least for a few shows so that fans could see Hodgson and Davies together in Supertramp for one last time. That would just make fans who wanted to see it for decades really happy. Basically, I was only doing it because the fans would love to see it and make it as last chance for the two of us to do something like this and make the fans happy.

Roger Hodgson will perform in Babelsberg, Germany on May 6. Roger Hodgson was angered this week to discover that his Supertramp co-founder Rick Davies was to tour Europe using the Supertramp name but not inviting him or the other key original member Dougie Thompson to join the band. Hodgson, the main singer and songwriter from Supertramp and who wrote the bulk of the Supertramp hits, has called on Davies to honor an agreement and not perform his songs.

Rick and I both knew that doing that would help create a clear delineation between Supertramp and Roger Hodgson when we agreed to part ways. The Davies fueled Supertramp European tour is being promoted as a reunion tour even though it is missing original members. The wording of the Davies Supertramp tour is also confusing fans.

With their Tour, and they come to London's Amazing o2 Arena for a special one-off show! It is also refurred to as a reunion. Hodgson is also on tour at the moment. When he heard recently that Rick might do a Supertramp tour this fall as well, he was surprised and immediately sent an email to ask Rick if this was true. Rick never replied, so, obviously, Roger is not part of that tour. Nor was Dougie Thompson from the classic line up invited. Tengo una seguridad y una felicidad que nunca tuve.

Si me siento estresado o infeliz, no tanto. Ha sido muy duro. Pero con mis hijos estoy muy bien. Supertramp co-founder Hodgson basks in past glories. Those not among the 75, who attended inevitably seem to know someone who did. I had a lump in my throat. I did that twice. It was quite phenomenal. The recording went on to sell 18 million copies worldwide. It was a huge travelling family of 20 or 30 people, and people were very touched when they were around it.

When Breakfast in America hit, the world did change dramatically for all of us. Suddenly, everything was magnified on every level. That came with its challenges: At the same time, we were all getting into families.
