Boston Metaphysical Society - Chapter One Special Edition

It is written in steampunk, science fiction and fantasy genre, and she has created a universe, which is both thrilling and exciting. Gloria Caeli and Fahriza Kamaputra are the two Colorists. I love the way the comic both bold and muted way the comic is colored, is well suited to the steampunk style.

NEW REWARD TIER! AIRSHIP BROOCHES!

Troy Peteri and Shawn Aldridge are the letterers and they classic comic style of lettering styles adds to the mastery! You can read this comic online at the above web address. This series is a paranormal mystery with touches of Victorian history, that is full of detailed plots and interesting characters. Woods is perhaps the most interesting character as he is the steampunk weapons expert and go to guy. I am new to reading these comics, but look forward to reading them all.

Boston Metaphysical society is published every Thursday Free online and there are crowd funded programs for the printed versions. So check them out and support them. Sep 13, John Jeng rated it it was amazing. It's already September, but I'm finally getting around to reading this great Indie graphic novel!

One small detail I noticed. I believe the redhead Miss O'Sullivan is the tertiary protagonist of the series, but when do I get to know her first name? Nov 10, Hannah Heath rated it really liked it Shelves: This is really good. Intriguing premise, good pacing, interesting characters.

I can't wait to read the next one! Dec 25, Travis Sivart rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: I shall share my thoughts with you without spoiling any of the mysteries this book presented. It is listed as a six issue mini-series web comic that was created and written by Madeleine Holly-Rosing and drawn by Emily Hu, more on them and their team later. Here exists steam driven rudimentary computers and electronics. And dirigibles rule the sky.

But with it comes social and political upheaval as not everyone is comfortable with change. In fact, many people fear it. That fear and the violence that followed caused a psychic rift to puncture the veil of space and time allowing the entity known as "The Shifter" to escape. And the only people who stand a chance in hell of destroying it are: They are the Boston Metaphysical Society.

They're going to need it. It caught my interest and drew me in as I turned the first page. I drank in each page with my eyes, the way you enjoy that cup of tea after a hard and slightly chilly day. It warmed me and pulled me in. The color palate made me lean in, as if squinting at something in the distance that roused my curiosity. The art style fits beautifully with the era it portrays. The lines of the characters are sharp and defined, and I was enthralled from the first panel. I slowed my reading, savoring it, noting the small details they have in each frame.

As I read on, I was delighted by the constant bits of Victoriana laced throughout the book. Simple and elegant, the details were subtle and uncluttered. I was brought into their world and shown around, never spoon fed facts, but rather immersed in them without realizing it. Steampunk gadgets and touches intertwine seamlessly through the story. Woods, their Steampunk inventor and weapons guy, are complete people when the story starts with their own motivations and backgrounds, allowing me to relate to each in their own way. The writer and creator, Madeleine Hooly-Rosing, has the right background and interests to bring this book to life, and Emily Hu, the artist, does a wonderful job bringing the vision to life.

With Gloria Caeli and Fahriza Kamaputra as the colorists and Troy Peteri as the letter to complete the team they come together to make a rich world that I look forward to visiting again, and soon. Nov 29, Mike rated it really liked it Shelves: Boston Metaphysical Society is a webcomic intended to be a six issue miniseries. Currently it is a few pages into Chapter 2. I am reviewing the comics that comprise this collection, not the printed edition and thus not the additional material. The first issue is, of course, mostly setup but it's well done and presents just enough information and hints to really hook the reader while keeping the plot and action moving at a decent clip.

The world already comes across as unique, imaginative a Boston Metaphysical Society is a webcomic intended to be a six issue miniseries. The world already comes across as unique, imaginative and nicely formed. The characters, including a quartet of famous historical figures, are all intriguing from the glimpses we get. I'm avoiding specifics because when discussing a single issue anything said would be a spoiler.

The art is quite good and has a suitable style that adds to the story's atmosphere. I had previously read one of the novelettes set in the Boston Metaphysical Society universe the excellent "Steampunk Rat" - see my review and have been looking forward to checking out the main story. It was an interesting contrast since Steampunk Rat was very different in focus and in some ways more "grounded" than the main comic.

The great part though is that because the story is related but not a direct part of the comic's occurrences, they aren't "competing" narratives and really complement each other. I am also dying to know how the comic or possibly other novelettes will reconcile Steampunk Rat's main character with his seemingly disparate attitude in BMS. Add it all up and I'm greatly looking forward to more of this universe in all of it's forms.

Boston Metaphysical Society itself off to a very promising start. I already find myself hoping there will be more than the planned six issues, since the requisite potential is most certainly there. Shawn Aldridge — Letterer Chapter 4 is a Portland based writer and letterer. No, Boston Metaphysical is one of my favorite webcomics because Madeleine Holly-Rosing creates a wonderful fictional world with bold characters and thoroughly entertaining plots. And because of Houdini and the ghosts. Madeleine Holly-Rosing and Emily Hu are the real deal. With its spot on writing and elegant illustrations it's got something that crosses over genres and refuses to be pigeon-holed.

We'll see more of this dynamic duo.
