Melody (Mystic Book 4)

The book is full of amazing lyrics and heartfelt passages from Keith's journal. I found myself bookmarking a lot of pages and underlining paragraphs. Through these insights the reader can see the intense struggle he went through to give up himself and be filled completely with God. He wrote, "All the talent in the world won't buy me a godly character Many of his journal writings are so personal and deep, and I want to want God in my life in the same way.

This book has opened my eyes to a level of introspection and action that I desperately want and need. These excerpts from Keith's journal was especially meaningful to me: Make me a man of prayer! Put power in my words. Your word is powerful! Make your word my word, make your power my power. I want to be God's voice, full of love, mercy and fire! But I must be dead. I am ready for death! Kill me, destroy me, burn me beyond recognition. I know now that you would never hurt or harm me.

You only want me dead! Let it be done! I don't want greatness. I want you to be great!

Lower me down, humble me. Teach me to humble myself, O Lord! I love you so much, but not as you love the Father. I want to love you that way! The Lord rebuked me yesterday for just occupying--just looking to do the next newsletter, the next album and tour, etc. He showed me that my vision was far too small and that I had lost my pioneer spirit. I had hidden my talent of potential for revival and soul-winning in the ground.

I had become a corporate president instead of an apostle -- making new territories available to God's Spirit to glorify Him. Thank you for rebuking me in such love and kindness. Others were balm to a weary soul. Yes, I would have rather read a book to receive what God gave me in those darkest of times--but some pearls are only discovered when the field looks like an impossible wasteland. He is the God of the impossible. The God who tells us where to dig for the treasure.

The God of great and tender mercies. And I love him with all of my heart. After we make a firm decision in our heart, God gives us the power to walk it out, and I think the temptations get less intense too. You will be convicted if you read this! God loves us unconditionally.

Finding Home Wherever You Are

We take Him for granted. There is nothing we can do to make God love us more, but there are many things we can do in response to that love. Few of us ever desire to give ourselves over to God with the intensity that Keith did. And few will have the impact he did -- there is a correlation!

I want to be intense in my Bible reading and prayer. I waste so much time on meaningless things and I do so little to point others to God. I want to be filled with the Spirit in a way that causes me to seek God first in everything, to listen for His voice, to watch Him in action, and to be obedient to whatever he asks. I have been hiding my talents and coasting through life. God loves me intensely despite this, but I want less of me and more of Him. None of me and all of Him! I added three more books to my Amazon list! Jul 14, Gina rated it it was amazing.

I loved Keith Green! When I was a teen, I went to one of his concerts, and loved it. After the concert, I went to his album table, and stared admiring the newest album. He actually came out to the table to talk to the guy working it. I asked the guy how much the album was. He told me, and I thanked him and told him I didn't have that much money.

I think I only had two or three dollars. Keith overheard and said, "Go ahead and give it to her. He didn't believe in I loved Keith Green! He didn't believe in "selling" the gospel. I dare you to get through this book without having a deeper desire to follow Jesus! Keith Green's life convicts and inspires. There's something special about a person who doesn't compromise, who still has rough edges that haven't been filed down.

Melody's prose is more flowery with more exclamation points! There's no objective biographer here; it's Melody's closeness to her subject that carries the narrative impact. Apr 25, Sal rated it it was amazing. I have read this book so many times! Each time I am challeneged and inspired by an amazing man and his amazing wife who truly desired to live a life that pleased God. It's bitterwseet but the tragedy of his death is somehow balanced with all the good that came from his life.

Jan 28, Ryan Bryant rated it really liked it. I wonder if that guys was crazy. Oct 20, Ken Heard rated it it was amazing. I started listening to Keith Green's music three years ago when my sweetie gave me one of his CDs to listen to while I made numerous 8-hour trips to visit her north of Chicago. She felt I needed divine intervention, especially while I tackled the Tri-State toll road during rush hours.

I was struck at the simple, yet deep message of his music and both his amazing piano playing and his trained voice. I started reading No Compromise a few years ago, but didn't finish it and had to return it to the library.

I searched again for the book, but apparently the library either sold it or lost it. Last week I came home for lunch on a particularly bad day at work. Holly, my sweetie, told me to check the mailbox because it was raining. I did and found the book! Made the day a whole lot better! The book is well-written and, despite its pages, it reads quickly.

It is an amazing story of how Keith struggled to find answers of his own faith and then how he wanted to share his findings with others. He wasn't in it for the money. He and Melody actually bought several houses to provide shelter for scores of people and he gave away his music a lot.

He also wouldn't take pay for concerts and he wanted to ensure that it was the message, not him, that people should heed. Keith had to be a genius; there are tips of that in his quirky behavior. He'd call people at 2 a. The impression I got was that he was still like a child in ways - a child of God- in that he would be so excited about learning something, he immediately felt led to share it.

Melody Green is patient in her writing and leads the reader along their path. It's by no means boring. At first, I thought the many pages would bog down. Instead, it could have been another pages. Of course, the ending is heart-breaking. I got the extended book that includes the epilogue and follow up by Melody some plus years later. It's necessary to read that part because it alleviates some of the sorrow. This is a great book for any Keith Green fan, for anyone wanting to learn more about Christianity and for anyone wanting to begin his or her own spiritual journey.

It provides hope for all. Melody admitted to smoking marijuana and other drugs with Keith early on. He was deep into the partying world. Melody suggests if he can gain spiritual divinity from his world, anyone can. No Compromise is really one of the better biographies I've ever read. If you're a seeker, and wonder what truth is, stop and read this book. If you're a follower of Christ and you feel you've lost touch with what that means, stop and read this book. If you're passionately seeking after God's heart and you want to go further, stop and read this book.

Most of us have lived a longer life in the Christian faith than Keith Green ever got the chance to. The difference in this man versus the typical nominal Christian is his consistent surrender Seeking and Surrendering The difference in this man versus the typical nominal Christian is his consistent surrender to the will of God, namely glorifying God in every single corner of his life. From his beginning days of searching for answers, his heart was open to truth. He sought it in the wrong places like many of us do, but once he found it, he always went full tilt.

He continually sought the searing pain of obedience, that the Lord would be his all in all. His tear-filled, anguished heart for the lost is something I long for deeply. This memoir from his wife challenges me on more fronts than I care or dare to express, and the sense I get is that I'll continue to come back to these words to be challenged again and again. Keith understood life as a Christian being a war-like mindset.

He understood that the questions he had weren't bad so long as he looked for the answers in the right place. He never wanted to be seen as famous, nor did he see himself as a hero or prophet You are doing yourself a massive disservice if you don't read this book. Oct 18, Jason D'Souza rated it it was amazing Shelves: Later the couple met with hippies at the beach who loved groovy music and began the Vineyard Christian fellowship. Then Keith Green went on telling everyone he met, strangers and friends about his best friend, Jesus.

Keith Green loved to tell anyone and everyone about Jesus, wherever they were One morning Keith Green met a young hippie girl, named Feather and told her about God Feather was very sceptical about the Christian religion, but Keith told her it was not so much of a religion as it was a relationship. Keith spoke about his life and shared his testimony to the hippie girl.

There were people from the Bible study swimming in the pool when Keith and Melody grabbed some chairs by the poolside and told Feather how great it was being a Christian when suddenly He ran across the concrete with his arms raised over his head, yelling - "praise the Lord! There was only one problem. He was totally naked We never saw her again after that Music was priceless and it was what Keith lived for before he met Jesus.

The Art and Science of Loving the Place You Live

Afraid that it was an idol in his life, the musician would tell his wife, "Mel, the only way to tell for sure if God is giving me my music is to give it up. I need to let it go I'm laying down all my public performing at the foot of the cross. I won't pick it up again unless God tells me to. Melanie would write in No Compromise, "As far as he was concerned, Keith Green would never play in public again.

The old Keith, the one with the dream of being acclaimed as a well known singer was dead. I think a Jesus freak is someone who is willing to sacrifice everything for God. Keith Green became a Jesus Freak when he gave up his music. That was his life. Attending a charitable benefit some time later at a popular overflowing nightspot in Beverly Hills, called the Daisy, where many people, were in attendance including friends from the Vineyard like Randy Stonehill and Larry Norman, Keith had the go ahead from God to play the piano for the 1st time.

If I could go back in time and listen to a performance of any musical concert in the 's, I would go to this day that Keith Green launched into the "Prodigal Son Suite. I'm no longer worthy to bear your name. I've learned that my home is right where you are. Oh, Father, take me in.. Melody would write, "I sensed at once that something was happening.

Keith and Meoldy would learn about the persecuted Chritians in communist countries, sent to insane asylums, prison and hard labor camps. Keith Green would write, "I cried for the suffering church and pledged to help. Maybe the echos of that sermon in that Hillcrest chapel permeated into my soul growing up because one day I would also cry for the suffering church and pledge to serve and help communist countries and the persecuted church. I've been wanting to read this book for a while now and I'm so glad I bought it. I enjoyed the way Melody wrote the story of their lives and how God saved them and they came to faith in Christ.

I love Keith Green's music and teachings and this book showed me even more of the kind of man he was. I miss him even though I never met him and I love him and his family dearly. God used him in a miraculous way even after he and his children's tragic death. He is one of the men that I really look forward I've been wanting to read this book for a while now and I'm so glad I bought it.

He is one of the men that I really look forward to meeting in glory. Thank you God for using Keith Green for your glory! With amazement, mixed feelings and awe, I have read Keith Green's life story. He was radical for God and full of fire, he knew no compromise. A product of the turbulent sixties himself, he knew firsthand how confusing a life without God but full of sex, drugs and rock-n-roll could be. He made a turn, a radical turn, and his preaching and music touched hundred's of thousands of young people.

Keith was truly sold out for the Lord, and Melody's sweet tribute to his life is a beautiful picture of how we can all respond to God's command to go and make disciples. Keith would just walk up to people and start talking about Jesus! He was not ashamed of the gospel but confident in the hope that he had Dec 24, Jeremy Utley rated it it was amazing.

What touched me was his childlike dependence upon the Lord. I thought the book did a tremendous job tracing his transformation over just a few short years. Nov 12, Paige rated it really liked it. I started reading this book in and finally finished over 10 years later. It is inspirational and eye opening to see the extent a person's dedication can reach and also the difference a person can make with an idea and a group of people can make when they work together. This book challenges the mind and heart and makes one question what they believe. Keith Green has a conversion story worth reading.

The book is as inspirational as his music was to his generation and for many generations to come. It chronicles the journey of faith of a man whose encounter with God changed the trajectory of his life and the lives of many others. Told lovingly and honestly by his wife Melody, it provides an even greater appreciation for his music.
