Estimating the contribution of movement-related activity to these responses suggested that more than half of these units were likely signaling correct perception of the auditory target, rather than merely movement direction. In addition, we found a smaller and mostly not overlapping population of units that differentiated stimuli based on task-irrelevant details. The detection-related spiking responses we observed suggest that correlates of perception in the rat are sparsely represented among neurons in the rat's frontal-parietal network, without being concentrated preferentially in frontal or parietal areas.

Background Correction of neuromuscular impairments after anterior cruciate ligament injury is vital to successful return to sport. Frontal plane knee control during landing is a common measure of lower-extremity neuromuscular control and asymmetries in neuromuscular control of the knee can predispose injured athletes to additional injury and associated morbidities.

Therefore, this study investigated the effects of anterior cruciate ligament injury on knee biomechanics during landing. Methods Two-dimensional frontal plane video of single leg drop, cross over drop, and drop vertical jump dynamic movement trials was analyzed for twenty injured and reconstructed athletes. The position of the knee joint center was tracked in ImageJ software for milliseconds after landing to calculate medio -lateral knee motion velocities and determine normal fluency, the number of times per second knee velocity changed direction.

The inverse of this calculation, analytical fluency, was used to associate larger numerical values with fluent movement. Importantly, analytical fluency for single leg drop differed compared to cross over drop trials for involved P [Clinical study of fire acupuncture with centro -square needles for knee osteoarthritis]. The cupping treatment was given after acupuncture in the two groups. The treatment was given once every other day, without treatment on Sundays. The treatment was given three times a week, 6 times as one course; totally 2 courses were provided.

In addition, the comprehensive efficacy was compared between the two groups. Compared before treatment, the score of VAS and the total score of WOMAC were improved in the two groups at each time point after treatment all P Using inertial measurement units to identify medio -lateral ground reaction forces due to walking and swaying. Horizontal ground reaction forces GRFs due to human walking and swaying have been investigated respectively through direct measurements using a treadmill and a set of force plates.

These GRFs have also been measured or estimated indirectly using acceleration data provided by inertial measurement units IMUs. One motivation for this research has been the lack of published data on these two forms of loading that are generated by movements of the human body in the medio -lateral plane perpendicular to the direction of walking or the direction faced during swaying.

The other motivation, following from successful developments in applying IMUs to in-situ vertical GRF measurements, has been to identify best practice for estimating medio -lateral GRFs outside the constraints of a laboratory.

problemas actuales democracia

Using a smaller and more recent set of measurements including motion capture, it has been shown that IMUs can be used to reconstruct these GRFs using a linear combination of body accelerations at each of the lower back and sternum positions. There are a number of potential applications for this capability yet to be explored, in particular relating to footbridge performance. Such forces provide a capability to excite horizontal vibration modes of large civil structures with frequencies below 2 Hz that are problematic for mechanical excitation.

As with walking, the ability to use IMUs to estimate medio -lateral swaying GRFs outside laboratory constraints has been demonstrated.

As for walking a pair of IMUs is needed, but the best linear combination varies strongly between individuals, according to swaying style. In-situ application of indirect measurement has. Deaths on board ships assisted by the Centro Internazionale Radio Medico in the last 25 years. Data on occupational diseases of seafarers and of causes of death during their career are sparse.

In the 25 years, deaths occurred 1. Diseases of the circulation were the most frequent, followed by external causes such as accidents and violence, infectious and parasitic diseases, alcohol and drug addiction, respiratory system diseases. Cardiovascular and external causes were the principal causes of deaths among seafarers.

This investigation is the first study on the causes of death on board ships obtained from data of a maritime telemedical centre, that has assisted seafarers when they were alive or immediately after their death. The fact that diseases of the circulatory system are the first cause of death of sailing seafarers deserves specific initiatives.

They should include campaigns for adequate lifestyles and the availability on ships of medical devices useful for diagnostic purposes, resuscitation as well as for verification of death. In in the Centro de Investigaciones Medico Quirurgicas the Transplant Coordination Office TCO was created, with the aim to organize a system to support a hepatic transplantation program. This organization, which changed the transplantation-donation process not only in our center but in the whole country, is described in this article.

The files of donors generated in our hospital were studied together with the transplant coordination records, from till the first half of In the period studied, 21 potential donors were diagnosed with brain death, yielding a donation rate of Brain death was most frequently caused by vascular brain disease; however, in the realized donor group, the cranioencephalic trauma predominated.

The typical donor was a man of average age Forty liver transplantation were performed in 36 patients including 1 liver-kidney simultaneous procedure. Kidney transplantations were performed in 70 patients, including 41 from cadaveric donors In , a pancreas-kidney transplantation program was started. The creation of the TCO has been of paramount importance to optimize transplantation program functions. The heliostat will be used mainly for educational and public outreach programs, so the design specifications did not require compensation for rotation of the Sun's image at the focal point.

The engineering computational tools CAD-CAE were used in order to allow a seamless interaction between the two disciplines involved, Mechanical Engineering and Astronomy. It has also been taken into consideration, as a starting requirement, that all materials be easily available and that all parts, excluding the optics, could be manufactured with the equipment available at the CIDA workshop.

These considerations were intended to reduce the cost of the device and to increase the feasibility of construction with limited technological facilities and financial resources. The results obtained by means of the computing tools used were validated through comparison against the analytical calculations. As a result, a robust but low cost heliostat was designed which in the near future will be used to project the Sun's image on a screen for public viewing and student research projects.

Accidents on board merchant ships. This statistical study was performed to find out the occurrence of accidents on board ships assisted by Centro Internazionale Radio Medico CIRM during the years , with the aim of providing suggestions in accident prevention, based on such a wide experience. The case histories of CIRM in the years were examined. The total number of accidents per year was calculated and compared as a percentage with the total number of cases assisted by CIRM per year.

The incidence of accidents on board in these years ranged between The most common injuries on board among cases treated by CIRM were contusions and wounds. Also burns and eye injuries were significantly represented. Multiple injuries and head injuries were found to be the most frequent cause of death on board due to an accident. More information on the occurrence and type of accidents and on the body injured areas should represent the basis for developing strategies and campaigns for their prevention.

Morbidity, utilization of curative care and service entry point preferences in metropolitan Centro Habana, Cuba. First-line health services with a primary health care approach are a strong trigger for adequate health-care-seeking behavior. Research on the association between prevalence of chronic diseases and acute illnesses and use of health services emphasizes the importance of socioeconomic determinants in such patterns of utilization.

In a cross-sectional study of families in Centro Habana, Cuba, home interviews were conducted between April and June to analyze socio-demographic determinants of acute and chronic health problems and use of formal health services. Bivariate and logistic regression models were used. During the previous month, of the latter reported an exacerbation and 50 experienced an unrelated acute health problem. Age was the strongest determinant of chronic disease prevalence. Adult women and the elderly were more likely to report acute problems. Acute patients with underlying chronic disease used formal services more often.

No socio-demographic variable was associated with services use or consultation with the family physician. The importance of chronic diseases highlights the need to strengthen the family physician's pivotal role. New economic policies in Cuba, stimulating self-employment and private initiative, may increase the strain on the exclusively public health care system. Still, the Cuban health system has demonstrated its ability to adapt to new challenges, and the basic premises of Cuba's health policy are expected to be preserved.

A cross-sectional study conducted on a representative sample of schoolchildren aged 6 to 12 years, using a questionnaire to determine their general dietary habits and a record of their hour intake. A total of schoolchildren were included, with boys The frequency of food intake was 4. Food preference influenced the choice in the meals consumed. Neuromuscular response of hip-spanning and low back muscles to medio -lateral foot center of pressure manipulation during gait. Footwear-generated medio -lateral foot center of pressure manipulation has been shown to have potential positive effects on gait parameters of hip osteoarthritis patients, ultimately reducing maximum joint reaction forces.

The objective of this study was to investigate effects of medio -lateral foot center of pressure manipulation on muscle activity of hip-spanning and back muscles during gait in bilateral hip osteoarthritis patients. Foot center of pressure was shifted along the medio -lateral foot axis using a foot-worn biomechanical device allowing controlled center of pressure manipulation. Sixteen female bilateral hip osteoarthritis patients underwent electromyography analysis while walking in the device set to three parasagittal configurations: Magnitude and temporal parameters were calculated.

The amplitude and temporal parameter varied significantly between foot center of pressure positions for 5 out of 8 muscles each for either the more or less symptomatic leg in at least one subphase of the gait cycle. Medio -lateral foot center of pressure manipulation significantly affects neuromuscular pattern of hip and back musculature during gait in female hip bilateral osteoarthritis patients.

Anti-angiogenic VEGFAxxxb transcripts are not expressed in the medio -basal hypothalamus of the seasonal sheep. This study investigated Vegfa expression in the pars tuberalis PT of the pituitary and medio -basal hypothalamus MBH of sheep, across seasons and reproductive states. All identified transcripts encode angiogenic VEGFAxxx isoforms, with no evidence for alternative splicing within exon 8. Walking patterns of hip arthroplasty patients: This study examined the angular gait kinematics of the trunk and the pelvis in the frontal plane and their amount of side-to-side asymmetry in patients after total hip replacement arthroplasty.

The angular gait kinematics of 12 male hip arthroplasty patients years were compared to ten age-matched and ten young years male control subjects. Average step times and medio -lateral oscillation amplitudes of the pelvic and thoracic recordings were calculated for each step. Between successive steps the asymmetry ratio was computed and the mean angle around which the side-to-side oscillations occurred was compared to the angle in a symmetrical standing trial. ANOVA indicated no significant side differences in relative step cycle durations.

Patients and senior controls had significantly p Influence of fear of falling on anticipatory postural control of medio -lateral stability during rapid leg flexion. During leg flexion from erect posture, postural stability is organized in advance during "anticipatory postural adjustments" APA. During these APA, inertial forces are generated that propel the centre of gravity CoG laterally towards stance leg side.

This study examined how fear of falling FoF may influence this anticipatory postural control of medio -lateral ML stability. Ten young healthy participants performed a series of leg flexions at maximal velocity from low and high surface heights 6 and 66 cm above ground, respectively. In this latter condition with increased FoF, stance foot was placed at the lateral edge of the support surface to induce maximal postural threat.

Results showed that the amplitude of ML inertial forces generated during APA decreased with FoF; this decrease was compensated by an increase in APA duration so that the CoG position at time of swing foot-off was located further towards stance leg side. These results contrast with those obtained in the literature during quiet standing which showed that FoF did not have any influence on the ML component of postural control.

The influence of a change in the meniscus cross-sectional shape on the medio -lateral translation of the knee joint and meniscal extrusion. Objective The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of a change in the meniscus cross sectional shape on its position and on the biomechanics of a knee joint. Methods One main finite element model of a left knee joint was created on the basis of MRI images. The model consisted of bones, articular cartilages, menisci and ligaments.

Eight variants of this model with an increased or decreased meniscus height were then prepared. The additional analyses for those models with a constrained medio -lateral relative bone translation allowed for an evaluation of the influence of this translation on a meniscus external shift. Results It was observed that a decrease in the meniscus height caused a decrease in the contact area, together with a decrease in the contact force between the flattened meniscus and the cartilage. For the models with an increased meniscus height, a maximal value of force acting on the meniscus in a medio -lateral direction was obtained.

The results have shown that the meniscus external shift was approximately proportional to the meniscus slope angle, but that relationship was modified by a medio -lateral relative bone translation. It was found that the translation of the femur relative to the tibia may be dependent on the geometry of the menisci. Conclusions The results have suggested that a change in the meniscus geometry in the cross sectional plane can considerably affect not only the meniscal external shift, but also the medio -lateral translation of the knee joint as well as the congruency of the knee joint.

Deficits in medio -lateral balance control and the implications for falls in individuals with multiple sclerosis. A major health concern faced by individuals with Multiple Sclerosis MS is the heightened risk of falling. The aim of this study was to assess differences between persons with MS and age-matched healthy adults in regards to their falls risk, strength, reactions and directional control of balance.

Twenty-two persons with multiple sclerosis mean age Assessments of falls risk, balance, fear of falling, lower limb strength, and reaction time were performed. Results demonstrated that, in comparison to healthy older adults, persons with MS had a significantly higher falls risk, slower reaction times, and weaker lower- limb strength. Additionally, during more challenging balance conditions, persons from the MS group exhibited greater ML motion compared to sway in the AP direction.

Overall, the results confirm that persons with MS are often at a heightened risk of falling, due to the multitude of neuromuscular changes brought about by this disease process. However, the increased ML sway for the MS group could reflect a decreased ability to control side-to-side motion in comparison to controlling AP sway. There are no records on the prevalence of infection by HCV in Mexican population. The central area of Mexico is a highly dense demographic zone and is the influence area of the second blood bank in Latin America in terms of affluence.

We applied a quimiolumiscence assay as a screening test. A recombinant immunoassay RIBA and a qualitative polymerase chain reaction PCR were performed as confirmatory tests and to detect viremia, respectively. The overall prevalence of HCV infection was 0. The prevalence of accepted donors 0. A higher prevalence of genotype 2 in asymptomatic individuals contrasts with previous studies with a selected population where genotype 1 prevailed.

Three-dimensional geologic modeling to determine the spatial attributes of hydrocarbon contamination, Noval Facility Fuel Farm, El Centro , California. An investigation was conducted at the Naval Air Facility located in El Centro NAFEC , to determine the vertical and horizontal extent of hydrocarbon contamination at the facilities fuel farm. The fuel products are the result of tank and pipeline leakage, past tank cleaning, and past disposal of fuel dispensing and filter cleaning practices. Subsurface soil and groundwater data was collected via soil borings, monitoring wells, and CPT probes.

Interactive sessions with the data visualizer helped guide the modeling and identify data gaps. Groundwater is confined beneath this clay layer and monitoring wells indicate about 3 to 5 ft of artesian head. Hydrocarbon contamination is concentrated within this clay layer from about 5 to 12 ft below the ground surface. Residual fuel products located in the groundwater are attributed to slow leakage through the confirming clay layer.

LYNX was also used to compute volumes of contaminated soil to aid in remediation cost analysis. Preliminary figures indicate about 60, yards[sup 3] of contaminated soil.

Since the contamination is primarily confined to relatively impermeable clayey soils, site remediation will likely be ex-situ land farming. Benign childhood epilepsy with centro -temporal spikes: Benign childhood epilepsy with centro -temporal spikes BECTS is a form of focal idiopathic epilepsy, with seizure remission by the age of Recent studies have suggested that some children with BECTS can suffer from deficits of memory, attention and learning ability and in auditory-verbal and performance sub-tests. On the other hand, alterations in the baseline brain electrical activity determined by using the quantitative electroencephalogram qEEG have been described.

Twenty-six 8 to year-old children with BECTS were studied, paired with a control group of healthy children according to age and gender. It was shown that the absolute delta and theta powers were statistically greater in the children with BECTS than in the control group, at almost all the electrodes.

In the children with BECTS, a negative correlation Pearson's correlation test was observed at various electrodes between the absolute delta and theta powers and the performance IQ. These data indicate a possible relationship between maturational disturbance in the brain electrical activity development and the tendency for inferior cognitive performance in children with BECTS.

Gait initiation GI involves passing from bipedal to unipedal stance. It requires a rapid movement of the center of foot pressure CoP towards the future swing foot and of the center of mass CoM in the direction of the stance foot prior to the incoming step.

This anticipatory postural adjustment APA allows disengaging the swing leg from the ground and establishing favorable conditions for stepping. This study aimed to describe the neuro-mechanical process that underlies the goal-directed medio -lateral ML APA. We hypothesized that controlled knee flexion of the stance leg contributes to the initial ML displacement of the CoP and to the calibration of the first step.

Fourteen subjects initiated gait starting from three different initial stance widths of 15 cm Small , 30 cm Medium , and 45 cm Large. Optoelectronic, force platform and electromyogram EMG measurements were performed. During APA, soleus activity diminished bilaterally, while tibialis anterior TA activity increased, more so in the stance leg than in the swing leg, and to a larger extent with increasing initial stance width. The activity of stance-leg TA was correlated with the degree of knee flexion. Across subjects, when stance-leg tibialis activity was low, TFL activity was large and vice versa.

Accordingly, the gravity-driven torque, the ML CoM velocity during step execution, and the step width at foot contact FC were lower in the Small and greater in the Large condition. Consequently, the position of the stepping foot at FC remained close to the sagittal plane in all. Abnormal epileptic activity is found in central and temporal brain regions, which are involved in reading and semantic and syntactic comprehension. Using functional magnetic resonance imaging fMRI , we examined reading networks in BECTS children with a new sentence reading comprehension task involving semantic and syntactic processing.

All children also underwent an exhaustive neuropsychological assessment. During the sentence reading fMRI task, left inferior frontal regions and bilateral temporal areas were activated in BECTS children and healthy controls. However, additional brain regions such as the left hippocampus and precuneus were activated in BECTS children. Moreover, specific activation was found in the left caudate and putamen in BECTS children but not in healthy controls.

Cognitive results and accuracy during the fMRI task were associated with specific brain activation patterns. BECTS children recruited a wider network to perform the fMRI sentence reading comprehension task, with specific activation in the left dorsal striatum. BECTS cognitive performance differently predicted functional activation in frontal and temporal regions compared to controls, suggesting differences in brain network organisation that contribute to reading comprehension. Anterior cruciate ligament ACL injury can result in failure to return to pre-injury activity levels and future osteoarthritis predisposition. Single leg hop is used in late rehabilitation to evaluate recovery and inform treatment but biomechanical understanding of this activity is insufficient. This study investigated single leg hop for distance aiming to evaluate if ACL patients had recovered: We hypothesized that patients with reconstructive surgery ACLR would have more similar landing strategies and knee control to healthy controls than patients treated conservatively ACLD.

Kinematic and ground reaction force data were collected while subjects hopped their maximum distance. The main output parameters were hop distance, peak knee flexor angles and extensor moments and Fluency a measure introduced to represent medio -lateral knee control. Statistical differences between ACL and control groups were analyzed using a general linear model univariate analysis, with COM velocity prior to landing as covariate.

Here we report the first demonstration for centro -apical self-organization of organic semiconductors in a line-printed organic semiconductor: Key feature of this work is that organic semiconductor molecules were vertically segregated on top of the polymer phase and simultaneously crystallized at the center of the printed line pattern after solvent evaporation without an additive process.

The thickness and width of the centro -apically segregated organic semiconductor crystalline stripe in the printed blend pattern were controlled by varying the relative content of the organic semiconductors, printing speed, and solution concentrations. The centro -apical self-organization of organic semiconductor molecules in a printed polymer blend may be attributed to the combination of an energetically favorable vertical phase-separation and hydrodynamic fluids inside the droplet during solvent evaporation.

Finally, a centro -apically phase-separated bilayer structure of organic semiconductor: More than 10 years contributing to environmental and neuropsychological research. In the INMA-INfancia y Medio Ambiente Environment and Childhood project, a Spanish national network of birth cohorts including more than participants, was set up with the aim to assess the health impacts of pre- and postnatal environmental exposures on children. The project has published more than 60 papers on maternal and environmental factors related to neuropsychological development in children, one of the main research interests within the project.

With the present review, we evaluate the evidence provided by the INMA project on this topic and discuss how the data can contribute to cover the challenges that children's environmental health research will face in the coming years. The INMA project has contributed to provide increasing evidence of the association between prenatal exposure to persistent organic pollutants POPs and child neuropsychological development, but it has also shown, using innovative methodologies, that postnatal exposure to these compounds does not play a role in this association.

The project has also contributed to show the detrimental influence of certain air pollutants on child neuropsychological development, as well as how a balanced maternal fish intake can protect from the potential adverse effects of prenatal exposure to mercury. Also, the project has contributed to the understanding of impacts of nutritional factors including supplement intake and vitamin D levels during pregnancy and the role of breastfeeding on the neuropsychological benefits.

INMA findings underscore the importance of continued research on the delineation of the sensitive windows of exposure both during pregnancy and postnatally and on the combined effects of environmental exposures, denoted the exposome. In terms of health policy, INMA findings have important implications for the development of public health policies to advance the health and development of children. The immediate-early gene zenk an acronym for the avian orthologue of the mammalian genes zif, egr-1, ngfi-a and krox has been extensively employed, in studies on oscine birds, as a marker of neuronal activity to reveal forebrain structures that are involved in the memory processes associated with the acquisition, perception and production of song. Audition-induced expression of this gene, in brain, has also recently been reported for the domestic chicken Gallus gallus domesticus and the Japanese quail Coturnix coturnix japonica.

Whilst the anatomical distribution of zenk expression was described for the quail, corresponding data for the chicken were not reported. We have, therefore, used in situ hybridisation to localise the mRNA that encodes the product of the zenk gene which we call ZENK within the brain of the 1-day-old chick. Because of this pattern of gene expression, we have compared the level of the ZENK mRNA in chicks that have been subjected to a min acoustic imprinting paradigm and in untrained controls.

The effects of biodiversity on the transmission of infectious diseases now stand as a cornerstone of many public health policies. The upper Amazonia and Guyana shield are hot-spots of biodiversity that offer genuine opportunities to explore the relationship between the risk of transmission of Chagas disease and the diversity of its triatomine vectors. Over triatomines were light-trapped in four geomorphological landscapes shaping French-Guiana, and we determined their taxonomic status and infection by Trypanosoma cruzi.

We used a model selection approach to unravel the spatial and temporal variations in species abundance, diversity and infection. The vector community in French-Guiana is typically made of one key species Panstrongylus geniculatus that is more abundant than three secondary species combined Rhodnius pictipes, Panstrongylus lignarius and Eratyrus mucronatus , and four other species that complete the assemblage.

Although the overall abundance of adult triatomines does not vary across French-Guiana, their diversity increases along a coastal-inland gradient. These variations unravelled a non-monotonic relationship between vector biodiversity and the risk of transmission of Chagas disease, so that intermediate biodiversity levels are associated with the lowest risks. We also observed biannual variations in triatomine abundance, representing the first report of a biannual pattern in the risk of Chagas disease transmission. Those variations were highly and negatively correlated with the average monthly rainfall.

We discuss the implications of these patterns for the transmission of T. El medio interestelar en los alrededores de la region HII Sh On the other hand, based on IRAS data we have analyzed the dust temperature and distribution. The Hi line data allowed the detection of a shell-like structure surrounding the ionized gas and the CO data revealed the presence of 6 molecular clouds probably related to Sh, which harbor several young stellar object candidates.

During the last year many changes have been introduced into the system of maintaining OMIM. There are three major components of the reorganization. First, a distributed editorial system was introduced which provides a three-tiered editorial board with senior editors, science writers and subject editors. Second, MIM entries have been restructured to provide separate gene and phenotype information and to organize them into separate catalogs.

The restructuring also establishes clearly defined sections for entering new information, converts old entries to the new structure, and establishes a file maintenance and editorial system in SGML format. Third, the entry numbering and naming system has been modified.

World bank and the environment. Banco mundial y el medio ambiente. The second annual report describes specific environmental strategies and environmental lending in the Bank's four operational regions: It details the Bank's progress in eight environmental categories: One chapter is devoted exclusively to tropical forests, studying ways in which the Bank is dealing with deforestation as a part of the constant review of its forest policies. This chapter reflects a shift in Bank emphasis from commercial ventures to conservation measures.

The publication reports on other initiatives by the Bank during fiscal , including the launching of the Global Environment Facility GEF --a pilot program to oversee reduction of global warming, preservation of biological diversity, protection of international waters, and prevention of ozone depletion. Estrellas Wolf-Rayet y el medio interestelar: Maternal thyroid dysfunction during gestation, preterm delivery, and birthweight.

Reward Yourself

Maternal clinical thyroid disorders can cause reproductive complications. However, the effects of mild thyroid dysfunctions are not yet well established. The aim was to evaluate the association of maternal thyroid function during the first half of pregnancy with birthweight and preterm delivery. We analysed data on pregnant women and their children from a prospective population-based cohort study in four Spanish areas.

Mid-gestation maternal serum and urine samples were gathered to determine thyroid-stimulating hormone TSH , free thyroxine fT4 , and urinary iodine concentration UIC. Thyroid status was defined according to percentile distribution as: An inverse association of fT4 and TSH with birthweight was found, the former remaining when restricted to euthyroid women. The Clean Energy Solutions Center Solutions Center helps governments, advisors and analysts create policies and programs that advance the deployment of clean energy technologies. In Latin America there is a lack of communication concerning educational research. This lack has been underlined in many regional meetings, but no action has been taken.

Possible steps that would lead to improvement include circulation of research summaries, both for completed and current works, efforts by research centers to organize meetings,…. Centro de Biologia Molecular "Severo Ochoa": One important aspect of studies carried out at the Center for Molecular Biology "Severo Ochoa" is focused on basic aspects of Alzheimer's disease, mainly the search for suitable therapeutic targets for this disorder. Several groups at the Center are involved in these studies, and, in this spotlight, the work they are carrying out will be described.

Over one hundred colonies of Gram negative bacteria Lactobacillus acidophilus were cultured at C in Petri dishes for 72 hours. Mexico's peasant sector is undergoing great change as a result of the insertion of capitalist relations into areas that were previously remote. The traditional peasant subsistence economy has been displaced, and peasants have been forced to adopt a series of new strategies for survival, entailing proletarianization or selling of labor.

Women in the community of San Nicolas Zoyapetlayoca, in the municipio of Tepeaca, have lived in a situation of poverty and precariousness for some time. Most of the population historically depended on the neighboring haciendas for their livelihood. Women and children also worked there, mistreated and without social protection. The lands that were distributed after the Revolution are insufficient to support the community, and most families must look elsewhere for employment.

Incomes are insufficient to cover all the necessities of education, health, nutrition, and other aspects of life. Most women are educated no farther than the primary level. They spend most of their time preparing food, carrying water, washing clothes, caring for their children, and in other domestic chores. Some women work for wages as laborers, factory workers, or domestics.

Rural women are disadvantaged by poor working conditions, insufficient education, low levels of health and nutrition, limited participation in social and political life, poor housing and lack of services, and frequently by their own attitudes of traditionalism or fatalism. An abbreviated primer on the sociology of the family is presented. The work defines family, describes different types of family structure, outlines the family life cycle, and discusses the functioning of families. Human beings in all societies require membership in a family of some type for reproduction and socialization.

One of the most basic human needs is for a mother who will feed, protect, and instruct her offspring. Families have always changed in response to societal changes. The functions of a family are devoted to two different sets of objectives, the internal ones of psychosocial protection of the members and the external ones of accommodation to and transmission of a culture. Families in all cultures provide their members with a sense of identity. Families must respond to internal and external changes and should be capable of transforming themselves to adjust to new circumstances without losing continuity.

Family systems differentiate themselves to carry out their functions through their subsystems. Individuals and dyads such as maternal-child or husband-wife are the subsystems. The family life cycle entails a series of stages: Each stage has its own pitfalls and challenges.

Each family has a hierarchy of status and power, although in some cases the proper hierarchies are inverted, and the children carry out functions that should be completed by the parents.

A series of explicit and implicit, rigid and flexible rules guide the functioning of the family. Various roles are carried out, including parental, marital, and sibling roles, as well as roles of authority, administration, and messenger. The Solutions Center offers no-cost expert policy assistance, webinars and training forums, clean energy policy reports, data, and tools provided in partnership with more than 35 leading international and regional clean energy organizations.

This guide provides a broad understanding of the technical, social, and organizational aspects of health clinic electrification, especially through the use of renewable energy sources. It is intended to be used primarily by decision makers within governments or private agencies to accurately assess their health clinic's needs, select appropriate and cost-effective technologies to meet those needs, and to put into place effective infrastructure to install and maintain the hardware.

This is the first in a series of rural applications guidebooks that the National Renewable Energy Laboratory NREL Village Power Program is commissioning to couple commercial renewable systems with rural applications. In this paper the acoustic design of the separate buildings housing the school of music, school of drama, and school of dance that opened in will be described. Spaces that JHA designed included practice rooms, studios, rehearsal rooms, black box, and concert hall. Details of room acoustic treatments, sound isolation measures, and venturi air flow will be illustrated.

An overview of the entire project will also include the seat multipurpose theater with variable absorption systems and the Alla Magna. Differences between the American and Mexican styles of consulting, importing of materials, installation, and commissioning will also be discussed. Status of TJ-II project. The problems encountered during manufacturing so far have been solved satisfactorily. Nevertheless the narrow tolerances, which result from the compact machine design, create real challenges for all the component manufacturers.

In this paper we present the present status of the project with a particular emphasis on the construction situation of the main components. Economic evaluations of health technologies and health interventions are considered in many countries as the fourth barrier for adopting new services or drugs; followed by safety, efficacy and quality. The validity and reliability of the results will depend on the perspective of the study, timeframe of the analysis, discount rate, the model used and the costs involved.

This study aims to assess the cost effectiveness of home care treatment in users with diagnosis of uncomplicated community acquired pneumonia compared with traditional hospitalization at inpatient wards. The hypothesis is that home based care would be more cost effective compared to traditional hospitalization. The study perspective was from the health provider. Microcosting was used to determine the costs of both treatment modalities in a sample of 20 users treated with each modality during at main Hospitals of Coquimbo Region, Chile.

The main outcome of effectiveness was the number of inpatient care days saved. Additionally, number of infections associated to health care IAHC and type of discharge were measured. The study concludes that there is a better cost effectiveness relationship for the home care modality, with fewer days of treatment, at lower costs and without risk of IAHC. However, further studies are needed in order to achieve accurate results.

Published by Elsevier Inc. The main goal of this study is to measure the impact of two alternative methods of overhead cost allocation of chilean public hospitals into the final production cost of health care services which are recurrent in health problems whose burden of disease is high in Chile. A purposively sample of six important hospitals of metropolitan region in Chile was considered.

A survey was applied to them in order to collect analytic cost data of resource use labor, medical supplies and use of capital in the production of health care services. The data of overhead cost electricity, central heating, laundry, administrative support, transport, maintenance, etc. The final cost of each health care service was calculated from the perspective of health public system, in two ways: The final costs calculated with each method were compared and analized.

The use of proxy rates to allocate overhead costs into the final cost lead to important under costing and over costing of health services.

This finding is important at least by two reasons: Provides English translation of a French study of legislation and programs providing preventive medical and social services to pregnant women and young children. Discussed are legislative objectives and organizational levels, strategies and modes of executive action, the contribution of social security to medical protection for mother and child,…. How the brain predicts people's behavior in relation to rules and desires.

Evidence of a medio -prefrontal dissociation. Forming and updating impressions about others is critical in everyday life and engages portions of the dorsomedial prefrontal cortex dMPFC , the posterior cingulate cortex PCC and the amygdala. Some of these activations are attributed to "mentalizing" functions necessary to represent people's mental states, such as beliefs or desires. Evolutionary psychology and developmental studies, however, suggest that interpersonal inferences can also be obtained through the aid of deontic heuristics, which dictate what must or must not be done in given circumstances.

We used fMRI and asked 18 participants to predict whether unknown characters would follow their desires or obey external rules.
