Meeting Dennis Wilson: Book Four

This was an ok, but confusing book. I believe that part of the reason that this book was confusing for me is because I did not read the first 4 books in the series.

  • A Boy's own story | From the Observer | The Guardian;
  • Meeting Dennis Wilson: Book Five.

I found there was very little introduction to the series or the characters, but I was VERY grateful for the 4 page synopsis of the first 4 books at the start of this book. The first chapter is what confused me the most, as it seemed to be an entire phone conversation, although the reader only gets to read half of the conversation Ma This was an ok, but confusing book.

The first chapter is what confused me the most, as it seemed to be an entire phone conversation, although the reader only gets to read half of the conversation Margo's side rather than the full details of the conversation. I did rather enjoy that while there were mentions of sexual acts, it was not overly graphic. The balance of being sexually explicit and innocent was just right for a YA novel. I thought that at times the book was a little vague, however it made for a quick read and was quite enjoyable once I got into it.

Similar things had happened to me in high school, so I could relate to it.

See a Problem?

My only concern is that today's youth generation might not know who Dennis Wilson is, as the Beach Boys are losing popularity with American teens. But, that's just my two cents worth. A big thank you to e author and publisher of this book, as I received a free copy of the paperback edition through the GoodReads First Reads Program.

    Boys acting badly is pretty much the theme of Book 3. This book focuses on the male characters in the story Brian, Scotty, Marty and how they deal or don't deal with conflict.

    It brought me back to high school again, as these books tend to do, because kids this age would have acted in a very similar manner. One observation I made was that kids in the 70s and 80s were able to experience the satisfaction of having a fight on the phone and slamming the receiver down at the end, something the ce Boys acting badly is pretty much the theme of Book 3. The story leaves off with us wondering what will happen with all the characters in Book Four.

    The author also includes some additional short stories in these books as extras, and they are great, but I wish they could have been incorporated into the flow of the main story. This book was more focused on further developing the characters than making significant headway with the plot-but that's necessary. I'm very invested in the story and the characters and have Book Four to start tomorrow. Maybe there will be more about the girls.
