When we had finished we evaluated our products but the best bit was eating them!! As part of Enterprise Week we have been thinking about all of the things that we love about our school. We created a design for one thing we really loved and then used some special pens to transfer our designs onto ceramic tiles. We are hoping to use the tiles to decorate the outside of our school. A huge thank you to everyone who came to support on our walk to Rise Park Church. The children really enjoyed themselves and were so well behaved.

We have used the photos to create a display within school. As part of our English work we have been reading the book 'What the ladybird heard' by Julia Donaldson. We have made our own ladybirds and we took them on a walk around school to listen to the different sounds we could hear. We used adjectives to describe the sounds.

In Geography in Year 1 this half term we are learning about our local area. Today we have been for a walk around Rise Park, looking at all the local amenities including the shops, cafe, chip shop and dentist. We also talked about where we could travel to on the buses from Rise Park. We will be writing about our adventure around the local area next week. What a super Christmas we have had in year 1!

We put candy canes in cold water, hot water and vinegar and then observed that happened. We watched them disappear! In Year 1, we have been learning about the story of the First Christmas in R.

We spent time in groups talking about the story and sequencing the events, before making our own stick puppets so we could orally retell the story. In 1W this week we have been using our number gators to help us learn about greater than and less than. We worked really well together in 3s deciding which number the gator would eat, remembering to use our mathematical language. In 1M this week we have been learning about instructions.

First we read and followed instructions to make lion puppets and then we wrote our own instructions to give to the children in F2. Last week was anit-bullying week and in 1W we talked about how we are 'All different. We discussed how we could be a good friend to others and made a friendship wreath which is now hanging in the KS1 hall. Thank you to everyone who donated and thank you to the Marvellous Monkeys who sorted all of the coins for us. We have really enjoyed listening to the children talk about their 'Me Boxes'.

They were very confident talking in front of their friends and also showed some great listening skills. Signs of Autumn - today we went on a lovely walk around our school grounds to look for signs of Autumn. We enjoyed rustling through leaves and throwing them in the wind.

We have been enjoying theme week this week. The theme has been celebrations. On Monday we celebrated ourselves and went out onto the KS1 playground to write good things about ourselves. On Tuesday we celebrated others - we wrote other people's names on a piece of paper and wrote nice things about them - then we joined all the paper together to make a long friendship chain!

On Thursday we said unkind things to some toothpaste, then we squeezed it all out. We said sorry to the toothpaste and tried to put it back in the tube but it wouldn't go.

This showed us that our words and actions can still hurt after the event, even if we have said sorry. We looked for common shapes which help to make structures stronger. Then we designed and made our own mouse houses! Today we tested them with Sunny the hamster from reception! Year 1 Wonderful Blog Our wonderful new year group blog!
