Natures Servant (The Nature Mage Series Book 2)

In fear for his life, he embarks on a journey, along with his guardian and best friends, to find magicians who will train him in the use of his rare and powerful gift. On that journey, they are attacked by demonic creatures intent on draining his powers and using them for their own purposes. Gaspi defends them from the terrifying creatures but at great cost to himself, and once again he is left at death's door. His guardian rides through the night to rush him to the city of Helioport, the city of magicians, where his life is saved, and he can finally start to find some answers.

Why does he have this gift?

How can he learn to control it? And what is the nature of the twisted creatures that almost killed him? As he discovers more about his destiny, Gaspi realises he has a crucial part to play in dark and terrible times, and can only hope that he gains full control of his gift before it is too late. I wrote this book as a teen fantasy and it certainly goes down well with that age group, but as time has gone on I've acquired almost as many adult readers, who seem to love it too. It won Lovereading4kids "Debut of the Month" in February and it's become so popular in America I'm now in the top bestselling fantasy and sci-fi authors on Amazon.

It's the first in a trilogy, the second of which is almost ready for release, and the third of which is underway. Where did the unusual concept for the novel come from? Coming of age stories are a well-established trope in fantasy literature, as are tales of an emerging gift, or a dark and dangerous enemy.

The unique features of Nature Mage lie in the characters' personal journeys. Years of experience as a Life Coach have given me an intricate understanding of personal growth, and of human emotion. Although my characters are very likable, they are also gritty, flawed individuals - real people going through tough times and learning hard lessons.

They talk like normal people, fail like normal people, and rise from the ashes of their mistakes like normal people. I try to inject all my books with realism, but also with great optimism for personal growth and healing.

The concept of magic in Nature Mage and its sequels is also a unique feature of the book. In the books, magical power is initially accessed through meditation, and has strict rules, much as the laws of physics govern our own world. As the sequels go on, I like to think that the fast paced, exciting story, also resonates on a deeper level. Is fantasy literature something that you will always write or do you think you will write in another genre in future?

I love fantasy and will most likely always write it, but I have other strings to my bow too. I already have a non-fiction book written in first draft. His demonic forces have been destroyed, and peace has been restored to the city of Helioport. Gaspi begins his studies again, bu Epic Teenage Fantasy with a gripping plot and believable, down to earth characters. Gaspi begins his studies again, but Hephistole, the chancellor of the college, has an unusual task for him - Gaspi is to leave the college and spend several months living in the wild with a reclusive druid called Heath.

Druids commune with spirits of earth, water, wind and fire, and while living with Heath, Gaspi is to learn the closely-guarded secrets of elemental magic. Hephistole is convinced that the mysterious elemental spirits will be of help in their ultimate struggle against Shirukai Sestin and his demons. In the Ruined City of Elmera, Shirukai Sestin summons Bale-beasts from the lower planes of existence — the same creatures he sent to attack the city of Helioport.

A Bale-beast is a feeder, slaughtering human magic-users and draining off their powers for a singular dark purpose: If even one Bale-beast transforms into a Darkman, Sestin will gain control of the ultimate assassin, and send it to seek out and destroy his enemies. Blissfully ignorant of the impending danger, Gaspi doesn't realise that he must bond with the shy and beautiful spirits, and unveil the secrets of elemental magic, or all may be lost.
