Dec 29, Tanya rated it really liked it Shelves: This is a really difficult book for me to review, because I have such different feelings about different parts of it. I absolutely loved reading Acts with the aid of Ridge's commentary; I grasped insights that I'd never had before, and really connected with the early apostles.

Through the Pauline letters I understood like never before the huge battle between the Mosaic Law and the New Law; somehow I hadn't previously noticed how constantly that comes up in the New Testament. The last part of the This is a really difficult book for me to review, because I have such different feelings about different parts of it. The last part of the book, of course, deals with Revelation, and I wasn't that impressed with the commentary for this section.

I probably just didn't apply myself diligently enough, but about 18 of the 22 chapters in Revelation still feel like gibberish to me. My biggest complaint about Ridge's commentary is something that I liked at the beginning. Each verse is constantly interrupted by parenthetical explanations of what each sentence means. For some difficult verses that's very helpful. But it got to the point where I just read whatever he wrote and stopped trying to understand the scriptural language for myself. That compunction to laziness combined with the disruption in the flow of the verses got old.

But overall I'm grateful we read the new testament with this. Jun 16, Char rated it liked it. Good resource, and well-done. Sep 20, Karin rated it it was amazing. This commentary was especially useful for the Book of Revelation. It lists all the symbolism for numbers, colors, etc. There were a lot of things that I understood better this time through. This series of books has great depth and is easy to read.

Ridges gives commentary that helps the reader understand these sacred scriptures better. He draws his information from z wide variety of reputable sources. I for one am grateful for his work. I would love to meet him someday and thank him in person. I have encouraged several people to study the scriptures with the help of his books.

One person found this helpful. To me, the OT has always been difficult and I tend to get clogged down in the minute details of it. Now comes along this wonderful bood and lo and behold having Bro. Ridges go into super detail of all of these books, makes it so much easier as he explains what's going on.

The Old Testament Made Easier Part 2: Selections from Exodus Through Proverbs by David J. Ridges

I know some people probably wouldn't like so much super detail, but I do because I can get bogged down in some of the events, people and lessons. Thank you so much for having this wonderful series as you are making my scriptural life ever so much easier to work with now that I am understanding the finer points. I can't speak highly enough of this book. I've heard friends rave about Ridge's other books about the Book of Mormon and such, but this is my first one.



I have always struggled with some stories in the Old Testament that didn't make sense to me, or didn't seem very worth my time reading like all the details of Moses' tabernacle. But Ridges is helping me see meaning, context, and symbolism in these stories and I love it.

I have recommended this book to others. I plan on purchasing his other books to help me find deeper meaning in the other books of scripture as well. A very good companion for the study of the scriptures , well formatted and I use the whole series as I study to teach Gospel doctrine! His books always help me understand the scriptures better.

Not a substitut for scriptures but a companion. David Ridges gives a masterful, in detail, study of the Old Testament, explaining many biblical references as he takes the reader through the scriptures of the Old Testament. He provides notes of explanation within many of the verses as well as backgroud prior to each chapter. I would recommend this to any reader of the Old Testament who is interested in gaining a deeper understanding of the Old Testament.

This is a great book. It is really interesting and has helped me understand the Old Testament. I love reading it and also just refer to it often when I want to understand something in the Old Testament. I would definitely encourage anyone who loves the Old Testament--or has trouble understanding it-- to purchase this book.
