Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (Dover Books on Literature & Drama)

Since I'm not reading it for school or for the poetry, but for the story, this was a great version. It made the story easy follow. I liked the descriptions of the different scenes. Especially the scene where Sir Gawain cut the Green Knights head off. I could almost see the blood spurting out just like in the story. Pretty good for an old tale!

Books in the Dover Books on Literature & Drama series

You have knights, heads rolling, deceitful woman, and a magical Green Knight. What more can you want? This is a good place to start. I liked the most that overall, the writing was understandable and the story easy to follow.

My Account

Sir Gawain is the one who accepts the challenge. It did feel dragged out and repetitive at times, but the book is still worth the read.

Some people are sticklers for the original translation, but this worked well for my students. It still had challenging words, but made the text more accessible. This was the first translation I have ever read but it was very readable. E binding is nice and there isn't all of the extra crap cluttering up the text, like essays by know nothing college professors who are celebrating their greatest life's achievement by getting to write the p classics introductory essay that shows at the people who study literature professionally actually hate literature. Great edition, no fluff. In this translation, we meet Sir Gawain, a nephew of King Arthur.
