I rarely had to go back to make sure I knew who each character was, even though there were several in the story. Too many authors get this wrong and as a result, lose readers. Other elements that impressed me: Inner dialogue was also right-on and insightful. The author kept the tension level high and did not use any cheap plot tricks in the process.

Thank you for treating the reader fairly What kept it from getting a full five stars? Similar complaints to what others have mentioned. Yes, the language in the first chapter is rough, the investigating officer is a misogynist, and the bad guy is a bit of a stereotype as well. But there is plenty to like once you get past those minor annoyances. Writing a novel like this is no easy feat. I applaud the author's effort. It came together nicely at the end. I would read another of his books. One person found this helpful.

Robert Gregory Browne

To get across an opinion of a character, the reference used mentioned a right leaning political group and Fox News. Unfortunately, if this is the best reference available, then that's just sad. Fast, compelling and graphic read. Learn about "The Rythym", and balancing of justice. Believable characters, entertaining dialogue and story line. I would have given this four stars if there had been more work about "The Rythym" and less graphic descriptions of what the victims of the serial killers suffered. I will not re-read this story but am interested in other works in this series.

Too many coincidences keep Whisper in the Dark from being a five star book. Still, the character development is excellent and the characters' actions always made sense. Browne actually convinced me that I was wrong about the identity of the killer and surprised me at the end.

See a Problem?

I would like to see Detective Blackburn in a future novel; he anchored the novel and made the coincidences almost realistic. Mass Market Paperback Verified Purchase. I was truly impressed with Browne's debut, "Kiss Her Goodbye," where his characters and complex plot draw the reader in and keep you hostage until the very end where you want more. However, his artistry and talent as a supernatural thriller writer surpassed expectations with "Whisper in the Dark.

The dialgue is crisp and moves the plot of the story as a true page-turner should.

I can't wait to read his future works. Even though I would not normally read sci-fi, the storyline drew me in right away. Easy to read, well written and twisty, I was pleasantly surprised. Characters could be a bit more defined; they need to be recognized and remembered, I believe. Will read this author again.

I don't do spoilers, blurbs, or storyline critiques, You want an engaging story with side issues and a satisfying conclusion -go no further. It's always nice to find a great author. I love his books and will continue to read when he publishes a new one. He has never let me down and I have a hard time putting it down. I have not been disappointed. I did get a little testy if traffic was bad and I had to stop listening I really didn't want to stop the story! I like all of Scott Brick's performances. His voice is just perfect for the antagonist, just the right amount of snark, arrogance, and thinly veiled cynicism that you might think a serial killer would have.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Series: Fourth Dimension Thriller

No extreme reactions, but at the end when details got really busy, I do remember saying out loud "wait, what?? What made the experience of listening to Whisper in the Dark the most enjoyable? Combined with mr Browne Who was your favorite character and why? I loved them all.

Fourth Dimension: Explained

He brings life in to authors words! Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you? Scott Brick is one of my Top 10 favorite but even he couldn't save this one. I don't know how it got published. Key factors aren't introduced until half way through the book, the author doesn't seem to want to waste time on letting you know where it takes place, The "thrilling" isn't even interesting, just stupidly bloody and if you don't get it he first time, no worries. I was "horrified" but only that I wasted a credit to purchase it. Love thrillers that keep me guessing.

Although, I touched on the killer once, I later disregarded my conclusion and changed my mind. There are so many twists and turns in the story, guessing who the victims and who the psychopathic killer is , is nearly impossible. This story provided a suspenseful , and total entertaining listen. The narration only added to the story. Love it when book style and narration comes together so harmoniously.
