#1914 PETER PAN SWEATER VINTAGE KNITTING PATTERN

Lincoln, senior midfield- er Callie Check and junior defender Jessica Stein are just a few of the key players anchor- ing a stingy defense this season. Junior Amanda Ottcn will be the Sequoits keeper this season. She recorded six saves in the shutout over the Bulldogs. The team plays their home games at.

Serbian Field, located off Grand Avenue near Lindenhurst. Another telling statistic is a team's record in one. Well if; the first w e e Grayslake should have a very strong sea- son. Fresh off a campaign in , the Rams opened up the season with a double- header against Waukcgan. And junior hurlcr Lea Corcoran picked up right where she left off last year, fanning a career-high 18 batters in a game one win. Grayslake's bats came out cold in game one as the Hams managed just six hits against the Bulldogs.

It was Cuellar's second RBI of the game. The Rams' bats heated up quite a bit in game two, to the tunc of 13 runs and 13 hits. Snyder also added four RBI and earned the win on the mound, giving up just two hits in five innings while striking out five and walking two. The Rams scored an early run as Ailing opened up the game with a single, stole sec- ond, moved to third on a fielder's choice and scored on a Michal RBI single. However, four fifth-inning errors almost cost Grayslake the game. It did cost them the lead, as die Devils took a advantage. It's a chance to get together with my brother and friends," said Duprey, a graduate of Lake Zurich High School.

But the school really found a diamond in the rough when it hired Julie Sexton to take over the job starting this spring. Sexton, who replaced Stacy Selle, is the third Antioch coach in as many seasons. And she's no stranger to success at just about every level, especially as a player. There's a lot of excitement and it's particularly meaningful for the team as well as myself because I went to Antioch.

They see my enthusiasm and my affection for the school and program long after I've walked through the door for practice or for a game. They've also had to deal with the losses of three key players. Junior Loren Scarbrough is still recovering from a knee injury sustained early in the basketball season but is coming along nicely. Kate Hofeldt, also a junior, has decided to concentrate on volleyball, and pitcher Laura Elstrom can now be seen throw- ing fastballs for Richmond-Burton Township.

Still, Sexton remains optimistic that this team can make a run at a conference and regional title. On defense, teams are going to be hard- pressed at getting the ball past an infield like Antioch's. First, you have returning All-Conference and All-Area selection in senior Carolyn Cooley guarding the corner at third base. After playing second base most of her career, senior Katie Korecek made the switch this season to shortstop.

According to Sexton, Korecek's defense has been outstanding, especially against Wheeling, when she earned a game ball. Junior Sclina Spillcr has made a strong case for the second base position. She's got great ath- letic ability," Sexton said. First base seems to be the only real question mark, but according to Sexton, senior Janene Cermak, junior Kristen Baiocchi and sophomore Sarah Stangel should all see time there. Sexton said Stangel, for only a sopho- more is a mid-infielder by trade but she's been a pleasant surprise in the early going.

Holding down the fort in the outfield will be senior centerfielder Jackie Schmit. Younger sister Kim, who played varsity ball as a freshman, will probably be seen mostly in right. Sophomore Jill Norwick will be behind the plate for her second varsity stint. Her battery mates could include the likes of junior Lanaya Gutowski and freshman April Mysliwiec.

Norwick, Korecek and Mysliwiec will also provide plenty of pop with the bat. Currently, the team stands at with a doublchcader of possible monumental proportions at Grayslake April 10 begin- ning at Campos later scored the win- ning run on a passed ball. Corcoran earned her second win on the young season for Grayslake , surrender- ing just three hits and a walk, while fanning six batters.

Despite the errors, Selle isn't worried about her team. The team has just one senior, Cuellar, and starts four or five sopho- mores at a time. MSRP is not necessarily what vehicles sold in trade area, on select models. Used car payments 5. Schroeder Publisher Robert J. And, quite possibly, enforcing the vehicle tax purchase is one of the most dis- agreeable responsibilities of elected officials.

The vehicle tax became popular in the s when it became established that every family owned a car and cash-strapped Depression era municipalities were looking for a convenient source of revenue. But the unpopularity of the tax and the difficulties of enforcing sticker requirements soon soured the requirement. But, like most taxes, the vehicle tax stayed on the books like a barnacle. After all, a tax is a tax is a tax.

Now it appears there's a trend to not only study the value of the vehicle tax, but also a direction to do away with the tax under the guise that it's more trouble than it's worth. Will other municipalities follow suit? It will be interesting to see if neighboring cities and vil- lages assign the vehicle tax to history. If so, everyone will be happy, especially law enforcement officers who consid- ered tracking down sticker scofilaws as petty and beneath their dignity. Or perhaps this was a form of protest and, in reality, evidence that there is not a shred of support for stickers. Memories outlive tired old building V For a number of years, the year-old gymnasium at the Brainerd Ave.

The once new athletic facility including an indoor track became unmercifully dated when the Butler Lake campus was established in the early s. To put things in perspective, the Brainerd gym was state of the art in the days when basketball players wore knee pads, the center jump was still a big part of the game and the one-handed jump shot had not yet been conceived. Girls weren't allowed to play basketball. For sports fans, that's ancient history. Nostalgia buffs, may recall that Marlon Brando first acted before a live audience on the cramped stage of the old gym.

Together, the two buildings were the center of the secondary educa- tion of a vast central Lake County area including Mundelein, Grayslake, west Lake Forest, Vernon Township and beyond. One of the greatest athletes ever produced by the school, Jim McMillan, hailed from Antioch. There are a lot of memories associated with the brick and mortar located at Brainerd Ave. These are some of the realities school officials are dealing with in deciding the future of school buildings that have become a white elephant.

Turnover for other public purposes? Complicating the decision making process is the Brainerd Preservation Committee whose members advocate continued use by the public. The catch is that the buildings arc badly in need of repair and upgrading. The problem is that no other entity, public or quasi public, has stepped up with that kind of money. Despite the fond memories and nostalgia associated with an old school, it's a stretch to link the year-old Brainerd campus with landmark status. Taxpayers have gotten their monies worth.

It's time to move on. Brainerd's fate was sealed a long time ago when a new campus was ; created and then another school— Vernon Hills High— was built. Brainerd has been living on borrowed time long enough. They're saying it's the same old story when there's a Bush in the White House— flagging economy, job loss and war. Unless you're among those who believe it's not important to battle terronsts on their home turf instead of the homeland of America, the comparison between Bush 41 and Bush 43 is all wrong.

Current employment stands at. Bush's eco- nomic approval rating was 17 per- cent compared to George W. Bush's current economic approval rating of 45 percent. Here in our backyard, county employers expect to pick-up hiring, according to the Manpower Employment Outlook.

Sixty percent expect to maintain their current staff levels. Manpower reported a substan- tial change in die past few months. A first quarter forecast found 17 percent of companies surveyed expecting to increase hiring activi- ty, while 20 percent planned to decrease hiring. Hiring in other sectors is expected to remain unchanged, Manpower stated. Clouding, or certainly confusing, the jobs picture is the bugaboo of "outsourcing" where American firms export jobs overseas for vari- ous reasons.

Political considera- tions are fanning the controversy with presidential candidate Sen. Kerry leading the fanning. National columnist Morton Kondracke wrote recendy that of 2. Our favorite economist, Michael K. Evans, said it best to quell the hysteria over outsourcing. Evans commented on overseas call cen- ters, notably in India. So stop wor- rying about them. That was a direct dig at Sullivan who divides time as a legislator with duties as the assessor of Fremont Township. First of all, like most homeowners in Lake County, my property taxes are'outof control. When I went into the assessor's office to find out why my taxes arc so high, I was told that I was partially at fault as well as my community because we keep passing all "Uiose referen- dums. The uninhibited growth is mind-boggling. This trend of growth will con- tinue for years to come.

The supporters of the District 46 referendum have stated "excellent schools increase your property value. If property taxes continue to increase as annual school rcferendums are passed, men won't this make our community undesirable? Districts 46 and home- owners have been bled dry. For example, what about raising the Lake County sales tax by whatever percentage is needed and then have that money earmarked to go for the public schools in all of Lake County?

This appears to be a more equitable system of paying for the schools since senior citizens and couples without children usually spend less than fami- lies with children. This helps to spread the financial burden of the growth in Lake County over a larger group of people. If this idea cannot be legally implemented, how about working toward changing the Illinois laws? Since tills is an election year, it is a perfect time to have teachers and students write letters to our elected officials asking for help, feasible solutions, and how to make changes in existing laws.

During school time, letters can be written to our Illinois lawmakers such as Governor Blagojevich, state senators, state representa- tives, Lake County Board members, and Mayor Perry. These leaders are responsible 4- for finding a different solution to funding our schools. Children can then encourage their parents and neighbors to join in their cam- paign. The majority of homeowners should be more than willing to write a letter, send an- e-mail, or make a call ir It means keeping additional hundreds or thousands of dollars in increases off their future property tax bills and having ho morelschoo 1 tax increase dums.

Our political leaders need to come to die forefront with concrete solutions to help solve this never-ending problem. These politicians witii problem solving solutions need to become our elected leaders or remain our elected leaders come November Having informational kiosks is a very nice thing to have, however, the amount of tax dollars being used is a waste of tax dollars.

In the past, applicants for tempo- rary use permits had to obtain approval from multiple agencies located throughout Lake County.

Under new procedures, county staff will coordinate with the other review- ing agencies to approve temporary use permits, thereby saving signifi- cant time for applicants. The county is increasing the number of "fast-track" permits that receive immediate approval at the permit counter.

New over-the- counter permits include hot water heater and furnace replacements, central air installation or replace- ment, HVAC replacement and certain fence types. Roofing, siding and elec- trical upgrades already qualified for "fast-track" permits. Although various county agencies are involved in the permitting process, the Department of Planning, Building and Development maintains a coor- dinating position among these agen- cies in providing permitting services to customers.

Spotted Dick is like a swiss roll, i think, but made with currants or sultanas, hence the spotted bit! It may have jam in it too. Off for my bowl of custard! Two presents for me Kim. Something to look forward to besides HBP! Back that truck up. I don't believe I ever said I'd be buying these things for you. I just said they made me think of you. And really, isn't it the thought that counts? And yes, the thought counts. As for you, Kim, I am so torn. What would suit you best? Something that comes in a little box, or perhaps the complete works of William Faulkner? Or maybe Dictionary of Southern Culture?

As of last night, my MSN was still not operational. In fact, it messed up my computer for a while, too. I could really use one of those with all this rain we're getting lately. For the record, my family is a Chinese food on Christmas family. Although I do agree with the rest of you that all this food talk is making my very hungry. I think it's time for some breakfast of untoasted pop-tarts. I am so excited today. A few days ago I had to attempt to get my computer running again by myself, husband wasn't in. I was really struggling to get it to work. Everything that I had sent from our "loaner" computer to our old dinosaur was coming out all messed up.

Well, I am very proud to say that after three days of messing with this I managed to get all of those bugs worked out. I am so pleased! I know that it's silly, but I feel as if I've really accomplished something that I never thought that I could. If it had been my husband's pictures of knives, flashlights, motorcycles or whatever that was in jeopardy it would have been a vastly different story, I assure you! I woke up with the weather distinctly cool this morning.

It's a really nice change for us. I've seen times that we were b-b-q'ing outside in our shorts on New Year's Day. We don't often get a chance for such nice weather. Hope that everyone has a great day! I'm going to check out posts and then be in the chat room later. So much to tell. I have drunk soooo much champagne and wine this week I am afloat am sipping a glass at presnet so cheers to all potties!! Week started well - sunday we did the bus ride and unbeleivebaly I won best ladies outfit!!! Next night at a dinner with the president I was given a bottle of champers for the help I did with our performance awards this year.

I have also hosted a group of sponsors that is, made sure they had yet more champagne and showed them to their table for dinner last night and last night at the performance awards dinner, Chris Barrie eat your heart our Leila was our special guest and compere - he was very funny. And although I ddint meet him I did see him relaly up close. What a week - I finished my last paper at We had a suite in the hotel overlooking the sea never had that before, with a balcony only trouble was it rained almost all week.

Still what a week - I've had a great time - only missed my lexicon fix!!!! But at dinner on tuesday night I was sat next to a chap that is known as "remus lupin" in a legal matter one of the lawyers referred to one of the parties as a bit dursleyish and then they allocated nicknames based on the book to everyone on their side, he he. He didnt know much about HP going in to the meal but he certainly does now!!! I remember making many a macaroni and cheese dinner in a hot water pot. Of course, butter was a luxury so unless we nicked it from the cafeteria, it was made only with water!

Happy Friday to everyone! Speaking of Thanksgiving and turkeys, can anyone vouch for the deep-frying method? My husband is very curious. I may be game, as the local fire department is just two blocks away. You are right to be concerned about fire. We had an article in our paper last year about an old man who got severely burned when his fryer tipped over. The instruction I read about safety were somewhat alarming: That said, it does sound yummy. My dad has been trying to convince my mom for the last few years to let him try it.

Since my family has a Thanksgiving curse on it, we have always dissuaded him so far. We just know that we'd probably burn not just the house, but the whole neighborhood with it! Maybe someone will post something good in the recipe section on fried turkeys! Hmmm, how to make it Harry Potter themed Congrats on the 'puter transfer stuff. They haven't made these 'puters easy for everyone yet, and that doesn't mean you're collective for all non-geeks a dumbie like all those books suggest.

I am a tech geek but I also consider myself a handy-man about the house. Well, having tried time and again to solder fittings in copper pipes, I can tell you I soon learned to appreciate the skills of a professional plumber. I would much rather build a computer from parts including operating system and application software than to try soldering copper pipes any time soon.

Ah, I'm rambling, but the point is you have to be smart to learn something totally new on your own. So I can empathize with the frustration you when through and admire you determination. Here is to your smarts, determination, and success! Lupin is Lupin, though I didn't make your list probably since I don't think I've posted to this thread before now you can note that I would be happy with a pair of warm socks like my HP namesake. Accio Sirius, Love your Avatar! But about Julia's breakfast, why should Julia ruin a perfectly good toaster pastry by heating it up?

You know they are also perfectly tasty frozen! Good Evans, just what is it you do for a living sorry, didn't search the forum for info, too lazy? Giving papers, drinking champagne, going to dinners, and educating lawyers about HP all together sounds like a wonderful occupation. Where can I send my resume?

Well, I must return to my work where I am under-employed. Feeling a bit like Arthur Weasley at the moment. Since I ate my first 15 years ago, is the only way I cook turkey now: Hey, Catherine, what is a word that means something half-way between touched and impressed? You've put so much thought into Christmas!

I must reciprocate and send you Accio, about that poptart with an iron— is it in the wrapper? Bumbledore, there's nothing hard about soldering copper pipes— as long as you have three hands and no wooden floor joist in the way. Call me a slacker chef if you want, but I find the enjoyment of the traditional roast turkey is inversely proportional to the huge quantities of prep time required. No, that last part was a joke; we're not good little Darwinists, we use two different serving platters.

I've made grilled cheese sandwiches with an iron too. Bumbledore, I've never tried a frozen pop tart! I'm glad you like the avatar. I usually change it often, but I am quite fond of this one! Catherine and Twinkling Blue eyes, thanks for the deep fried turkey info! You've given us a great link to describe the turkey frying process. I had wondered where to even start describing the process For all of those considering it, I've yet to find a person that doesn't rave about how good they are when cooked this way.

I'll just give one other piece of advice, do not place a frozen turkey into the hot oil. The frozen ice crystals will not react nicely to this. Yes, I'm warning of this because someone has actually done it. We all seem to be a bunch of food obsessed people lately. I'm right there with you. My mom always makes the BEST homemade fudge. She has a staunch rule about the fudge, though.

She only makes it between the third week of November and Christmas. Good for me that she does, to be honest! A few years ago my husband's assistant at work got a batch for Christmas. He tried in vain to convince my mom to start a tradition of making "Valentine's Fudge" or "Easter Fudge" because he couldn't stand to think about waiting a whole year for more. And we think that it's only women who get obsessed by chocolate! It's a standard joke in my family now, "Mom, how about making some Columbus Day fudge for us? Thanks for the praise! I do feel so enormously proud of myself for fixing old Dino the computer without help.

To be perfectly honest, I'd have been glad to have kept my loaner computer forever, it was much nicer and more modern! Oh well, comfortable old shoes are better than no shoes at all. Since you're already there due to the time difference, how's tomorrow looking for us? Well, I must go and cook supper. It's odd that I'd rather talk about cooking than actually do the cooking! Have a good night, all! Not been on here for ages so sorry for all the missed birthdays.

Barbie, is your mum secretive about her fudge recipe? If not, be sure to write it on the recipe thread. Has she ever done treacle fudge? I've seen many different flavours, but never treacle. Hands up who's just seen Jonathon Ross interview Stephen Fry. They talked about Harry Potter for ages: Jonathon and his family are fans. Most of it was stuff that's been mentioned before, but I hadn't heard about the envelopes passed to JKR. Where's the best thread to give details? Shall I write it here?

I'm thinking the JKR interviews and influence on our ideas thread. Good to see ya round the chat thread, mate! Good to see ya. I'll apparate over there right away. Sorry if anyone has tried and failed to e-mail me recently. I've sorted the fault out now. Just apparated back, this little titbit won't really fit on an established thread and it's not worth setting up a new one.

One of the assistants that accompanied her whisked it away before she touched it. This happened 17 times during one book signing. At the end of the session JKR asked the American assistants why they had grabbed the envelopes. If any of her next books included anything like the contents of the envelopes, then she may be sued. I did it at least once. I got my permit in November and didn't get my license until the following July. My dad celebrating by buying me an utter wreck of a car to drive myself and siblings to school.

It was so long that Squidboy used to make beeping noises when I backed up. There sure are some devious f-f-folk out there! Good to see ya mate! I have a task that I must fulfill. I saw that we had many newcomers on the threads, and I'm hoping that they will be our new friends. So, here goes a massive Forum welcome to the following: Keep your quill handy, and draw up a chair. We're a feisty bunch, but we love our own, so check in often! I've finally made it back to the land of the fantasy living.

I had a root canal earlier this week, and had a bad reaction to the pain pills they gave me, and haven't been able to get to the computer all week. Can't catch up on all the news, but to touch on a few topics: We always roast our turkeys. My favorite is a citrus turkey. I generously rub margarine or butter if you prefer and dried orange and lemon peel on the outside and under the skin, then stuff the inside with peeled lemons, clementines, and oranges. Sometimes we'll change it up with a garlic turkey, following the same procedure, but with garlic outside and garlic cloves and onions inside the bird.

It makes me a little sad that the movies used to be pretty empty, but now are crowded with families that can't find anything better to do together on such an important day for them. Of course, its also sad that there won't be a new HP movie to see this year! I can't think of British food without remembering the episode of 'Friends' where Rachel makes trifle and puts in beef. Ahh, at least now we have 'Joey' to fill that empty 'mindless yet funny sitcom' void. Well, off to rinse with salt water again. Anyone have any advice for dealing with the tooth discomfort?

It depends on your taste. If you are even occasionally offended by anything, don't see this movie. It's got violence, graphic sex, and Kim Jong Il Personally, I thought it was the most hilarious thing I've seen in years. I'm sure in a theater full of people it'll be even more so. Marie is right about her first car. It was a tank--right down to the olive green color. All it was missing was the gun turret on top. On the plus side, she was pretty much guaranteed to walk away from any collision not involving an wheeler.

Nice to know I'm your favorite brother The banner's already been claimed by my wife, but I might be able to score a poster for you by Christmas if you're nice. I've found that alcohol helps. The tooth still hurts, you just don't care anymore. Thanks so much for your answer. I had always wondered what they could have been for Ron to try to entice Hermy with them. Now I think I might just go and look for some recipes to try and pull them off. Have a look on http: It tells you how to make custard as well.

I would never think of something like that! She has to be so careful and I'm sure even when she is, there's somebody wanting to sue her! I try not to make it any other time because it is too good and I am too bad. I'll think of an HP angle and post in on the recipes thread if anyone is interested. Mike, aka Giant Squid, Almost a year later and I am still green with envy!!

I did manage to score one of those lenticular wanted posters, so I have been appeased somewhat! Now I am going to have to try it. I've actually lucked out in that I'm the only Pottermaniac at my location and our theater doesn't get the HP movies, so I can swipe stuff as soon as it arrives. Hubby will be working tonight so I will be running updates on the computer all evening.

We're headed to Disney the first week in April. I'm going to bring POA because Hubby doesn't read the books and hasn't seen the movie yet. I want him to be prepared when I buy the DVD. We're driving from Ohio - with 2 children no less - I must be crazy! Have a good weekend all! See you on the threads! What toothache, and why am I seeing so many cards???

Accio- Maybe call it Finnegan's fabulous Irish Fudge? Perfect for the World Cup or any wizard gathering! I can barely stand my kids in a car for the 45 minute drive to the butcher! For me, it's the only way to keep my sanity on our yearly trek to the beach. We'll have to see what we can conjure up. I have successfully completed my update - it only took 4 hours - I hate dialup.

It has saved us on many a cross-country car trip. So far it's just me and my friend Nikki but we're hoping to get more people coming. There are six others registered on the meetup site. I think the fact that Nikki and I have been bringing our kids scares the younguns off, so for November's meeting my husband "volunteered" to watch them all. Our weather has been yo-yoing from 60's to 40's and so naturally I have a cough now. I've been drinking a lot of tea and thinking happy thoughts.

I'm finding myself shivering and then berating myself--I grew up in North Dakota, where mid's is a heat wave haymoni, I was going to ask which Disney you're travelling to CA or FL , then realized it'd be a trek either way. I just had such a super week and these things are not normal in my life and I just wanted to share Some people are really high powered "high flyers" sometimes I pinch myself and rarely have anything to say as it is all beyond me!!!

High 60s in the day time and your shivering Mike? That sounds tropical as its in the low 50s here. I to have got used to slightly warmer temperatures that I grew up in. Hooray for all the food related posts. We nearly went for the midnight blue dress with a cape. Thanks for the message Jack, you made my day. You're not crazy, you're adventurous. I'm going to let some of my ideas on child-rearing seep into the next paragraph. I'm not judging anyone, just telling what I found and what worked better for us, but if you get easily offended, just skip ahead. For me, the purpose of family vacation is: So electronic entertainment gets the kibosh, or at least, is highly limited.

They are too isolating, and over-use actually increases tensions. I know it sounds hokey, but, singing and storytelling games break up monotony better because it forces some interaction. If we do use an electronic boost, books on tape where everyone listens have an advantage over headphone games because it gives us common ground for restaurant conversation. When the kids were little, we used some intro to foreign language tapes with hilarious results; and when they were teens, we listened to lectures on history and business law which led to some very interesting discussion.

A Feed the Geek philosophy of child-rearing. One potentially stressful situation actually turned out as a blessing in disguise due to vacation circumstance. Family modesty levels are often less than normal when everyone is sharing a motel room or staying in a friend's home. We were on a road trip to the Pacific Northwest and over miles from home when my daughter, then 20 months old, sees our friend's child who is a year older being potty trained. My daughter, who was born with a bit of an you-can't-stop-me attitude, decides she can do that!

And she pretty much did. It was the easiest potty-training ever and our biggest problem was finding underwear small enough for daytime. She was tiny and they don't make a 1yr. So you see, Haymoni, what might look crazy on the surface sometimes isn't. Sorry I haven't been participating much in the chat these past few days. I have three midterms this week one of which is tomorrow!

I just got off the phone with Betty. She asked me to let you all know that she's back in the hospital. Her most recent round of meds wasn't doing the trick, so she's back in to try something new. I wish it were better news. Is there anything we could do or send to our forum mom?

Good luck on your midterms. Missy, I was thinking of making the fudge a Finnigan family recipe. I work on posting it! Last time she was in the hospital we had flowers sent to her. If you guys are willing to help do that again, and by willing to help I mean contribute to the cost shoot me an email or an IM pinstripers16 hotmail. Also feel free to email or IM me if you have any other ideas. Well I am back from my vacation to the mountains.

My parents and I had a wonderful time, it's so pretty in Telluride. Plus its fun to ride the gondola. Hey, I am easily amused. I found some great Thanksgiving recipes in Parade magazine a few years ago. I have done Thanksgiving a couple of times and it turned out well. I love that green bean casserole, so easy too. Well I am back to using an iMac. I haven't used it in over a year, been using PCs only. So I need your help Mac people out there. To make all those nifty avatars I need a graphic editor and I just have a graphic viewer.

I will also need something that can make thumbnails. I am looking for something free. If you do have any ideas let me know, my e-mail address is under my profile. Send Betty our best Julia! That goes for me, too! All the best, Betty. And get well soon! While that may seem like a pro-PC statement, it has been echoed by my cousin, who swears by Macs A big cyber-hug to Betty, of course. Hopefully they can find the right mix of meds for her soon. Oh, and good luck on the midterms, Julia.

I can vaguely remember those from the dark past when I was in school, and they kinda sucked. I am pleased to finally have enough freedom to post properly. My mother-in-law is gone, and to all who really know me, you will understand what this means. Chemyst, I read your post about child-rearing and trips with fascinated interest, as we have had our own travel challenges.

I am pleased to have an ally against the automatic "tv in the car" thingy. We had a child who, for the first 28 months of her life, no matter what, screamed in the car non-stop. Neighbors recommended getting an in-car TV as the solution, but we figured that since our oldest child was already half-nutso listening to the screaming, trying to watch TV over it wouldn't help much. Also, unbeknownst to these friends, we aren't big TV watchers at our house. So hubby, being the cute cheapo that he is, thought, "Why buy an appliance that we don't use IN the house? So on long car trips, we listen to Harry Potter books or other good books on CD.

So there is a happy ending after all! Cheers to Betty, and feel better; Hi to all my friends who have posted; and Hi to all the friends who haven't posted yet, and the new friends I haven't met yet! This weekend, we went to a Cub Scout camp out that was 40 min away. Over the summer, we drove from TN to UT and back with 6 in the van with me.

I think we may be going back again in the summer of since it will be the bigger family reunion, my grandmother's family rather than just my mom's family. This means we get to see extended cousins, aunts, great uncles etc. It is really cool to see the resemblances between every but a bit unnerving when you are getting a soda from the cooler and someone who you don't know exclaims "You have to be Kathy's daughter!

We got to hear wild cats, coyotes and owls as well as assorted other woodland creatures during the night. It was muzzleloading season and even though we were on a protected area, there were still poachers. The ranger had an attack when he realized that we were hiking in an area where he knew there were poachers. We were hustled back out of there quickly. Apparently he didn't think we would go down there and for whatever reason, decided to not go chase off the poachers. We had a great time, we did a scale model of the universe using tissue paper and rocks, we had a contest to see who could find the most unique 4 complete items that would fit on a penny without touching one another or overlapping, we played games, we had a puppet show and learned a lovely song called Road Kill Stew it was that or Ruff, the Tragic Maggot We are already planning a Winter Camp Out.

Now, I am off to try to read a few threads before calling it a night! I haven't posted here in a long while. I am still kicking around. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. Julia, the day is not over yet. But I might wish I hadn't lived it after tonight. I remember with fondness the "mixed up sign" song. The child sleeps tonight I hope you sleep, also. Our 10 year olds lead the group to help them learn it and then we sang it a few times. First you go down to the interstate, You wait for the critter to meet its fate, You take it home and you make it great, Road kill stew, Road kill stew.

Amber--I am the mother of three great kids, the youngest of which graduated from high school in June. For me, the older my children got, the more I really liked them as people. Life with a youngster is still vivid for me, though, and I send you all the patience and prayers that I can. Hint--Take a nap when he does!

Gypsy--I had a friend in high school who wanted so much to go to Australia that she married an Aussie and moved down there. When we moved out here our slam-dunk two week escrow took two months to close during which time all the jobs were taken. Three years later we re-financed, only to deal with the same thing weeks to months. The first time it was the escrow company; the second time it was the loan officer--a now-former friend of my mother-in-law. Here's hoping you get to move in before Thanksgiving! After my stay at home and study-week I got so hopelessly far behind on the thread it took days to catch up. I didn't want to Obliviate, because then I always miss out on important things going on.

I hope she gets better again soon. Welcome to the forum, all newbies. You have found your true home here, I'm sure! I've lived in here for almost a year, and I can say I have never been in a friendlier forum family. You know, when we were kids, we were usually really nice to each other.

We used to go on extended-family trips all around southern Norway and to Denmark, never any fighting. But when we turned Let's just say that my cousin once removed and me, who had been best friends since we were 3 suddenly weren't best friends anymore. Nothing really happended, we just grew to think the other one was hopeless. It took most of high school to get us on speaking terms again. We are friends again now, however. It really is an exhausting process, my biggest question is this: Why is it when I gave people my work number to call, does everyone from the bank, the real estate agent, and the inspection company insist on calling my home number and leave messages for me at home asking to call back right away?

Don't they realize I'm at work? Isn't that the reason I gave them a work number? Thanks for letting me vent. Hubby is out of town today so I had to cancel my meetings and quit being a Slacker Mom. Can't get in to the doctor for another hour so I thought I'd pop in here and say hello. Jack - home ownership is worth the headaches, but I don't understand the telephone number thing either. We have cell phones, work phones - why do they insist on calling home? It kind of scares you. If they are so stupid that they call the wrong number, why do we continue to do business with them?

Have a butterbeer and "take a deep breff" as Daughter says when I'm losing my cool. No time to read over posts, so my most humble apologies. Just wanted to stop by to say I'm still job hunting, but at least I have internet service and email at my home now. I have changed my email address here on the forum I need to get back to searching for employment?

Oh, all right, but running out of money is sooo much fun! Gee, that's something my kids haven't had in a while. Now I've jinxed it and they'll both come home with gunky eyes. Now Michael, it was '76 that we drove from Missouri to North Dakota. I remember that we made up a song that supposed to quiet Bekki down but actually made her cry harder. I also remember you singing "Rhinestone Cowboy" for most of the trip. Slacker mom item Have bought frozen peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to put in the kids lunchboxes.

They thaw out in an hour and are ready to eat by lunchtime. I would love to join the auntie group. I have had that problem as well with people calling me at home. I almost passed out with shock when I bought a new cooker from a company that understood that a mobile means that I am not at home.

You have my sympathy with buying a new home. The last time I moved I was selling and buying at the same time. I was a wreck. No, I'm alive and still a Muggle and I've been too busy to post. Please post a pic soon! Long car rides, I know the feeling, except my little sister and I are usually the ones doing the bickering.

My parents liked it more when she slept the whole ride. I shall leave you with this: As such, I am duty bound to be a Yankee "fan" if I must identify myself as a fan of any type. I haven't heard from Julia in a while? I hope she's alright. I, too, hope that Julia hasn't gone missing! Two kids home sick with some icky respiratory thingy.

Poor Hayley and therefore mom has been up since 4 a. Even the puppies are sleepier than usual today. I keep chanting to myself: Don't get it; don't get it; don't get it. Well, to chime in on the baseball rivalry, hubby and I are aligned with the Red Sox. Off to make some tea to stay awake until an appropriate bedtime.

Have a good evening. Good luck job hunting. I am having lots of fun too watching the money roll right out of my bank account. I gets lots of helpful advice from people saying "Oh but you did save up lots of money just in case this happened right? I too have gone through the joys of home buying and the ever fun re financing. It's all stress now but it will be worth it when you finally own your own home. Plus, there is the tax write off. Haymoni and Catherine, I hope the kids get better soon! I hope the two of you stay healthy, because if it's anything like my house, it really doesn't matter if mom becomes sick!

I still have to take care of everybody. ICThestrals and Padfoot, I'm sending employment charms your way! And Acceber, I'm rooting for the Red Sox for nothing else than just a change of pace. Louis is going to win it all anyways, so it really doesn't matter. Being from Cleveland, it is hard watching Manny Ramirez in someone else's uniform, but I wish him all the best.

I will be home tomorrow with the Pink-Eyed Daughter. It is right before my busiest time of year at work, but maybe I'll get started on the packing for Disney World. It's been a really disgustingly busy couple of weeks. They told us teachers not to search the web "for fun" any more at work. Now I'm only supposed to look things up about the things we're studying in school "The Outsiders" is next; good book.

Nonetheless, sorry for once again zipping ahead to recent entries, but hopefully everyone is doing wonderfully! I'm rooting for the Red Sox too, but if not them, Houston. I don't want St. Louis How my St. Louis relatives would torture me! I am now about to give birth to a brand new baby ulcer. Second, please no "pics" of your new baby ulcer? Here's hoping you and Cynde both have the best luck in getting a job. One that we'll all be jealous of when you get it!! Well, part of our state got hit with some severe storms yesterday -- there were some bad thunderstorms and a few tornados.

Luckily none here in my area, but it was bad in the lower half and eastern side of the state. FYI for those who are "thinking" about trying to fry their 1st turkey here soon. Which I highly recommend!!! That way, when we are ready to fry the thawed out turkey we know exactly how much oil to add without it overflowing. Paul Newman and a ride home. Talk about ruining a perfectly good book with a movie!

Dally was supposed to have an elfish face and hair so blonde it was almost white - Matt Dillon??? Patrick Swayze as Darry was good, but you couldn't get close enough to see his eyes. Book-Darry had eyes like ice. Diane Lane was pretty good as Cherry - how pretty is she??? Hinton the author who wrote the book in her teens as I recall actually played the nurse that Matt Dillon is hassling.

I'm pretty sure I swiped a paperback copy of that book from my high school. It has to be around here somewhere, along with my black-handled switchblade. The internet connections at UConn are working just fine. As Accio Sirius mentioned, I do indeed have midterms this week, two of them tomorrow in fact. I've been studying in a very Hermione like fashion, although I've been lurking all along. I realized that the playoffs bring out the worst in me and I don't like it very much, that combined with frustration and midterms is making me not happy right now.

My only real experience is basketball and I've been a Laker fan for over 20 years. What's more, I'm tiring of pointing this out. Anyway, I always found myself a much better sport when the Lakers were clinging to a series lead than when they were up or Don't put it off 'til later, cuz I'm sure you're a first-rater! Ok, now I'm sleepy and old, because positive reinforcement is just not not my style. I am far too much of a kid myself to even consider bringing one into the world.

He or she might try to play with my LEGOs or read my comic books! I remember that movie, mainly because Marie was a squealy teenybopper when it came out.

It's the same reason I know the lyrics to Duran Duran's entire catalog up to their first breakup, anyway. They had the radio on the 80's station at work recently, and I found myself singing along to "Save A Prayer"; it was most embarassing. I'd just like to say I'm back. Best wishes for all the birthdays, celebrations I missed but I had to use the cheat button mark as read to get along with this thread.

Off to lunch it's Everyone has a good day. Jack - hang in there too, the completion makes it all worth it!! Septentrion - pleased you had a good time. We all have our flahsback moments. My freshman roommate in college had a Duran Duran poster, and sadly, I didn't mind at the time.

I may have even gone to see them in concert, but I can't be sure--I may be repressing that memory. I've been on a Cheap Trick kick lately, trying to recapture those moments of dancing around the room with high school friends and squealing over Tom Petersson who just by the way, in his prime, could have played Sirius.

I try not to regret too much from my past as it is pointless, but I'm glad nobody has pictures of me from a Journey concert. Anybody else trying to repress an embarrassing concert event from their youth? I liked Journey, but I went to the 2nd concert to see Bryan. I saw the Stray Cats. It had been raining and a mudslide had formed on the lawn - what a riot!

I don't choose to forget my 7th grade obsession with Duran Duran and how many times best-buddy Lisa and I watched the Hungry Like the Wolf video we taped from Friday Night Videos because MTV hadn't made it into our neck of the woods yet. Those were good times that we laugh about. If I really dredge up the "need to be forgotten" memories, I might think about, in the same year, that some friends and I performed to the song "Freakazoid Robots" in the middle school talent show. In one of them, we all dressed up for the Headbangers' Ball. Our attire consisted of dog chains, leather, ripped clothes, bizarre hairstyles, and anything too tight and too short that would give our mothers apoplexy.

I can't believe that we actually went out like that. What WERE we thinking? Have a great Wednesday. How could you ever have been such a dork Catherine? I was cleaning out my closet and found a jean jacket waaay in the back that I had cut into a vest. My concert pins from Stray Cats and Journey were still on it. Did anyone have a GQ Wall in college? We would buy "Gentleman's Quarterly" does that magazine still exist??? Needless to say, we often had to go to the library to study! Off cource I was 15 in , during the boring mid-nineties. I barely owned any clothes that werent black, army green, brown, grey or I also used mascara in my eyebrows, and went to school looking like that.

Add glasses, acne and braces, and you get the picture that 15 wasn't my prettiest age. Maybe I'll post a picture of myself at that age once. I'm off to join Winky in numerous bottles of butterbeer. This is what I get for sharing. You'd think I'd learn my lesson! It was very brave of you Catherine. I'm sure if someone dug far enough, there would be something on Loopy. I will admit just about all of my college misadventures, but since I minored in photo-journalism, I was the one taking all of the pictures, so there is no hard evidence on me. I only gave a website because I like to back up my statements with proof; I knew I was right to begin with being an insufferable know-it-all and everything.

And no, that was not me at the Huey Lewis and the News concert in ' Oh, and here's more. I was sooooo busted this weekend. I was taking my 15 year-old niece to her grandmother's. I was trying to do the bonding thing by agreeing with her that I totally hate Avril Lavigne however you spell that chick's last name too.

Anyway, my niece, who always has control of the radio, was flipping through stations and I said "Oh wait, I like that song" at one point. I had no idea whose song it was, but you guessed it. I had just told her to stop on one of Avril's little ditties. I had a ticket for Fleetwood Mac, but had to sell it to a friend, as I developed a stiff neck. I don't know what was more painful - the stiff neck, or missing the Fleetwood Mac concert! Stevie Wonder and Ringo's All Starr Band are ones I'm still wanting to go to; but I don't even know if they're touring over here in the near future But, as they say, each to his own!

Its an excellent book, which I'm looking forward to teaching. I agree that the movie is off a bit, especially as far as Dallas goes; Matt Dillon is too all-american for that part. Dally is supposed to look meaner than that.
