At the age of twelve he left the mountain area, attended a boarding school in Madrid and then studied law. Today Llamazares works as a writer, journalist and scriptwriter. After two poetry volumes which were published under the titles of 'La lentitud de los bueyes' and 'Memoria de la nieve' , his successful debut as a novel writer came out in 'Luna de lobos'.

Llamazares had his literary breakthrough with the novel 'La lluvia amarilla' in With the story of the dying village, Llamazares has depicted a concise development of Spanish society in a bribingly direct speech. Hundreds of villages have disappeared in the last decades because the inhabitants have moved to the cities. In the first three years after its publication, 'La lluvia amarilla' was already re-published 15 times. In the autobiographical novel 'Escenas de cine mudo' , the narrator returns to Olleros, the place of his childhood. After the death of his mother he finds a photo album with old black and white photos.

The hotel is literally a 2-minute walk from the Roman era bridge and the hot mineral springs. It was a 5-minute walk up to the fort on the hilltop. Surrounded by the natural beauty of green parklands, the majestic Vidago Palace blends the Belle Epoque style with modern luxuries. It features a vanity pool, spa and hole golf course. The lake in the garden is just beautifull out of a Monet painting. The hotel is really a palace. It also has spa swimming pool, golf and walking tracks. The food is also very good. Every thing one can want for a relax holiday.

The 3-star Hotel Albergaria Borges provides modern accommodation in Chaves, just 1. Very modern - nicely furnished p- very clean and fresh. The whole object is astonishing. They tried very hard to help us and make us feel at home. The area is very quiet, there isn't many people there and not that many tourists. The views during breakfast are breathtaking and the whole Douro Valley is great: On top of that the prices are very reasonable. The Hotel has been very tastefully renovated, everything is bright and sparkling clean. The staff were very helpful with tips on places to eat and the many interesting Roman sites to visit in the city.

The breakfast was excellent with lots of choice.

Especial Territórios Trás os Montes

Don't miss doing what the locals do - sitting in the shady pergola just behind the hotel to relax and have a drink of the thermal hot springs and benefit from its healing powers. The Vintage Douro House is a special place! Every room has a view of the Douro River. Our accommodations were comfortable huge king-two twins together luxury linens etc.

Staff was very accommodating. Our dinner at their restaurant was the best we had in Portugal. This hotel has a fantastic location on the river. Being on the second floor, we had lovely views up and down the river. The breakfast room and restaurant are on the top floor, again with great views. Breakfast was very good, plenty of fresh food on a buffet service. The views from the property are excellent. Beautiful facility in the heart of the Douro Valley wine country.

Great for a relaxing getaway from the city.

Away from the touristy spots like the town centre and the train station. Perfect views from the rooms onto the river. Fresh produce for breakfast. Wonderful location with views of the cathedral! The room was spacious and lovely! The breakfast quality was super with cook to order eggs!
