Going Home (Alleys and Broken Dreams Book 1)

I hurt with both of them and I shed some tears as well. But the most beautiful thing was how they both healed and were able to find solace in one another.

Oh boy and the way they loved each other, these two gave me all the feels! I seriously need to hike up my cowboy boots get my bum to Texas and lasso me a cowboy! Harper, girl you wrote one helluva book. Thank you a million times for giving us Leighton and Maverick!!! I can't wait to read Quinn's book and I hope there's a Clay book in the works. I'm telling you, you want to read this book. Strap on, you're in for one helluva ride. I've been a fan of Harper Sloan for a while now and I've pretty much read all her books, so it was safe to say when I heard she was writing a book about a cowboy, I had to dive in head first- NO questions asked.

Lost Rider did not disappoint. Maverick Davis was the perfect alpha with a touch of brooding and damaged. He'll have you swooning with his Southern drawal and sweet Southern charm. Then there's Leighton James. The sweet girl next door who falls for her best friend's brother. She's been a part of the Davis' lives since diapers and could never shake the crush she had on Maverick. She's tough, sassy, and independent even through the curve balls that life threw her way and losing her heart to Maverick. She's always remained the same, a true Southern girl to the core making it hard not to love her.

Yet Maverick and Leighton's relationship isn't easy, in fact it's complicated. There's a lot of unsettled tension after 10 years, but regardless their chemistry was so palpable you could feel it through the pages. They healed each other, fixed one another's broken parts, and above all else they loved each other through it all. This book definitely leaned more towards the contemporary romance genre, but it was still funny, sexy, and full of sweet perfect moments with equally great secondary characters. Bring on Clay and Quinn's stories! If you're looking for a read full of heart, second chances, healing, forgiveness, love, and family, then you must pick this book up!

Lost Rider had me going thru multiple different emotions:: And Most of All- Love. That is the theme that runs as a current thru this book. No matter what is going on, love is running throughout. Maverick left Leighton 10 years before when they were teenagers, with plans to never come back. Now he is coming home, after too many concussions have taken him off the Rodeo circuit. She was once the only person he could talk to about anything, was one the only person he could share things with and now she doesn't even want to speak to him.

Leighton is a woman who has had a hard road in life. She had this huge love for Maverick which he threw away when she was but 18 years old. It was done in a pretty cruel manner. She has had to grow up, and find her own dreams without the man she loved with her of her heart.

Editorial Reviews

When he left her, she was broken, and bruised. There are deep and lacerating wounds that have to be healed before they can fully be together and not everything can be avoided which is what this story focuses on. That and what family really is. That is what this story also focuses on. Their passion is deep and their love is one heck of a 2nd chance love story. It is so beautiful and the plot is fantastic, but it is written by Harper Sloan so yes, you will get that awesome plot, that beautifully written story.

She had her badass moments and I loved it every time when she showed she wasn't going to take crap from anyone.

As they spend more time in the winery, the relationship seems to rekindle.

Nightcore - Boulevard of Broken Dreams

Roland can't deny that they have chemistry and Zoe can't deny that there's an attraction. Other than the two main character, I also loved the family. The support they had for each other is so precious. Seriously crossing my fingers and hoping for a story about each sibling. Mar 04, Debbie rated it it was amazing Shelves: Zoe and Roland fell in love at 17 years old, married at 20 and divorced at 26!

Roland was driven and worked hard, which resulted in him losing the love of his life. Zoe refused to come second to his job, so after 6 years she left and went home, filing for divorce. Do second chances really happen? Is their love strong enough? They both have decisions to make, will they be the right ones? I received an ARC of this book for an honest review. Sep 01, Zilpha Owens rated it really liked it. I love a second chance romance and this one is sweet and built around the Miles family.

If you like you're second chance romance stories filled with regret, desire, undeniable attraction, humor, a plot twist or two, steamy sex scenes, then check out Broken Miles by Claire Kingsley. I volunteered to review an advance reader copy of this book. Mar 11, Callixta rated it liked it.

La romance contemporaine classique a encore de beaux jours devant elle. Ro La romance contemporaine classique a encore de beaux jours devant elle. Ces deux aspects sont importants. Il faudrait comprendre pourquoi. Tous les autres devraient suivre. Jul 17, Pauline rated it liked it Shelves: When Roland gets a call from his brother asking him to come home because, "things are bad" it takes him a while to reach a decision.

Because going home means going back to his demanding father, his frustrating brothers, a world of problems When Zoe hears that Roland is coming back, she figures it will be yet another fly in - fly out trip, with barely a word spoken between them. But when he has to stay on longer than planned, When Roland gets a call from his brother asking him to come home because, "things are bad" it takes him a while to reach a decision. But when he has to stay on longer than planned, it becomes obvious that there's still a spark between them, and that spark might just grow into something amazing.

Meanwhile nothing is what it seems in the Miles household at Salishan Cellars. Roland's Dad seems to be constantly away travelling, Leo doesn't want to leave the house, Brynn's just discovered her boyfriend with her housemate, and some of the cellar workers haven't been paid in quite a while. Add to this the spark of Roland and Zoe's 'almost' relationship, and things catch fire pretty quickly.

I've never been one for second-chance romance novels. So much as I would love to say that Broken Miles by Claire Kingsley changed all of this for me, unfortunately that wasn't the case. For me, the relationship was the least interesting part of this entire book which is a bit problematic when it's purely a romance novel They spent more time thinking about each other than actually in each other's company, and even when they were together they were either having sex or simply reflecting on something they've already thought about over, and over before.

Thankfully, the drama at Salishan Cellars and the rest of the Miles family were interesting enough that I was happy to keep reading. And I know I'll keep reading the rest of the books in the series as well, if only to see how the rest of the drama unfolds. Claire Kingsley is a good romance author. She writes believable characters and pops them into an interesting story, with plenty of fun dialogue and silly moments, and this is no exception. If you enjoy second-chance romances, then you will probably have fun with this one.

Personally I doubt I'll reread it, but I'm still going to pick up the next in the series, Forbidden Miles. Seriously, I thought they were really cute together, and wondered if the comment about the threesome not working out had more to do with them unexpectedly liking things about each other, rather than disliking it Mar 07, NovelMomma rated it it was amazing Shelves: Rating - All the Stars!!

Like right this minute, go buy it, and start reading. I absolutely loved everything about this book, and I am so excited for the rest of the series! It is such a fan Rating - All the Stars!! It is such a fantastic introduction to the series. I fell in love with the entire family There is so much included in this story. This book focuses on Roland and Zoe. We get brief glimpses of their former relationship through brief text messages from the past and conversations that take place, but this story focuses on the present. I love Roland and Zoe. I think second chance romances are tough to pull off, because for me, I need to see real character development over the course of the story.

Kingsley accomplished this beautifully. I absolutely loved the push and pull in this story as well as the simmer that built to a raging fire. Their chemistry was off the charts, and the build was amazing! Not only did I love Roland and Zoe as a couple, I loved them as individual characters. Zoe is independent, loyal, and loving. She is as much if not more a part of the Miles family as Roland, and I love the way she cares so deeply for them. Seeing her cut loose with these goofy boys makes me even more excited to see them fall hard in books of their own.

And while Roland has made his fair share of mistakes, his love and emotions run deep. I love that he is loyal and loving to both Zoe and his family.

Broken Miles

He is strong, learns from his mistakes, and supports those he loves. He had me swooning over and over. Did I mention this is the perfect series opener? Not only do we get to know Roland and Zoe in this book, we also get to know the whole Miles family. I fell head over heels in love with the Miles family. Each and every one of them has a unique story, and I absolutely can't wait for each of their books. The possibilities are endless and I already have so many theories!

When the winery is in trouble Roland gets called back home to help with the family business, and will have no choice but to be in the same building as Zoe. Roland always wanted to prove he was meant for something greater than working at the winery. He made a name of himself but in the process lost focus of what was important. When Zoe divorced Roland she moved back home and started working for the Miles family. She absolutely loved her job, but she loved being a part of the Miles family more.

When she found out Roland was in town, she figured they could be cordial towards each other.

But the moment she saw him, she knew it would be a hard task. There was no denying the electricity and attraction they felt towards each other. When the problem at the winery turned out to be more than Roland expected, his stay was extended. Not being able to stay away from each other, they start dating again, and we get taken on a journey of second chances, and new beginnings. This book was such a beautiful second chance romance! There was no denying Zoe and Roland were meant for eachother. I can not say enough good things about this book.

I love Claire's writing style and the way she makes us fall in love with all her characters. This book was the perfect start to a new series. We meet the entire Miles family, and fall in love with all of them. I am so excited for the next book! I loved this book, definitely worth five stars! This is only book one, and I already know without a doubt this will be my new all time favorite family series.

From the very beginning you are totally enraptured by Zoe and Roland's story. You will experience every single emotion you can imagine as you devour this book. You will love the characters and then one sentence later feel the need for violence. You will be laughing out loud one second and crying into your kindle the next. I fee This is only book one, and I already know without a doubt this will be my new all time favorite family series. I feel like the author has once again stepped outside of what may be her comfort zone to bring you an epic story of love and loss.

But love at what cost? And loss for what reasons? These questions will drive you just as crazy as they do the characters as you follow along on the journey of Zoe and Roland, shouting from the rooftops to see them together at the end. This is different from your usual second chance romance. This one hurts so good in a very different way. I fell in love with both characters from the very beginning and I kinda wanted to also pop them both in the head and scream what is wrong with you!!!

Seriously, emotion overload, all over the place. This author has a way with secondary characters too are unparalleled to others. As you take the journey of Zoe and Roland you are fortunate enough to spend time with and get to know the other characters in the story. This is something this author does with every single of book of hers and it never disappoints. Since this is planned to be a family series and what you get to know about the rest of the family from this first book And I will be the most impatient little book nerd ever as I wait.

I'm hooked, and I need more, like yesterday. I re-read all of this authors book from time to time, and I'm not sad to report that this will be another that is going on that list as well. I know you will. Mar 07, Sunny Shelly Reads rated it it was amazing Shelves: Another brilliant story from the amazing Claire Kingsley, one of my absolute favorite authors. Broken Miles is an amazing tale of rediscovering a love that isn't really quite lost between divorced couple Zoe and Roland.

But what's more, it's also about the broken Miles family. I loved the family dynamics and dysfunction just as much as I loved Zoe and Roland's reconnection. Roland is called back home to lend a hand when his family is about to lose the winery that has been in the family for generations. But going back home doesn't just mean seeing the siblings and parents he's not that close with anymore, but also seeing his ex-wife, Zoe, who works as the winery's event planner.

From the tension-filled first hellos to slowly breaking down barriers and striking up a semblance of a friendship again to full-blown giving in to the passion and attraction that they still have for one another, Zoe and Roland were a couple I was rooting for from the start. My favorite part of the book? The "talk" that Zoe and Roland have where they hash out the issues that plagued their marriage and led to their divorce.

It was ugly and gritty, but CK didn't shy away from delving into that -- and wrote it so well, I felt like I was watching my friends hammer it out before my very eyes. It was a huge turning point in Zoe and Roland's relationship and I would not have been able to get behind this couple's reunion if that conversation had not happened. The supporting players in Broken Miles were just as endearing. CK is off to a great start of a new series I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

I just loved Zoe and how talented she was at her job, how she could laugh at herself, and her friendship with his family. This book has other story lines woven in which I liked including the parents and siblings of the Miles family.

These relationships helped you understand Roland and the decisions he made. I really liked how he and Zoe finally communicated and were honest and open with each other. They married young and admitted their faults and how they hurt one another, and were committed to not making the same mistakes again. This is how conversations should be…in so many books you just want to scream at the pages for them to talk to one another. I felt their love, respect, and attraction to one another, and really liked how Roland took an honest look at his life and made decisions for the future based on his love of Zoe and his family.

Roland is sexy, smart, and devoted! I especially liked the Bonus epilogue and hope to read more of their continued romance when his sister, Brynn, gets her story! I could feel it happening. Roland and Zoe's chemistry was sizzling! They both tried to fight it, as they'd never had issues in that department.

I felt that this story was mainly about Roland's personal journey, as shocking revelations make him take stock of his life and have personal revelations of his own. He and Zoe were absolutely meant to be together, and I loved the rebuilding of their relationship, as well as the rebuilding of his relationship with his family. This novel was also a solid introduction to the rest of the Miles clan and their family dynamic.

I am over the moon with happiness that she brought us a second chance romance with real emotions, not overly dramatized, where Roland and Zoe may have ridiculous fights as we all do in real life- but things were talked about. NO, I'm not kidding folks, they actually talked it out. I thought I was seeing things. Now don't get me wrong the story is not all downers and lets's have couch sessions, there is so much humor wrapped in between the frustration and melancholy sneaking up on you at just the right moments.
