White Shoulders: Romance

Like a very nice shampoo or hand lotion, say. Nevertheless, I perversely like it, somehow. Even though I cannot detect some of the supporting notes claimed for it, like peach, spices and civet. I just get a big confluence of gardenia, lilac, jasmin and tuberose, and a hint of muguet. What I'm wondering is: I wonder if it once contained natural floral EO's? If so, it must've been absolutely glorious.

Or whether it's always been a drugstore-tier number, happily composed of all-synths as it is today? Can anyone here comment on this?

Reviews of White Shoulders by Elizabeth Arden

My maternal grandmother wore this, as did my own mother. I've been wearing this for decades; both the Evyan version and the Arden version. This white floral works well for me. The notes that stand out the most are gardenia, tuberose, jasmine, and oakmoss. The first few minutes after spraying I get some lilac, lily, aldehydes, muguet, orange flower, and amber. There is a greenish undercurrent, too.

This is cheap enough I can spray like a mad fool. I enjoy the "old lady" aspect of this. It takes me back to happier times, when my Mom and I used to do fun things together Bonnette Show all reviews United States. White Shoulders doesn't seem to age well. I have two EDCs and one parfum from the Evyan years, each of them boxed and well stored, but all of them have faded - the parfum is just basenotes now, the EDCs mere shadows of their former selves.

The current versions still have that special heady white floral accord we remember at the opening, though it is fleeting. I agree with other reviewers who prefer the EDP, mainly for its longer lifespan - the EDC has scant longevity, and is comparatively thin. This was one of my favorites, growing up, and I still love having it around. This review is for the Elizabeth Arden version of White Shoulders.

I've never tried the Evyan version, so I can't compare. However, I really love the current version, especially the eau de parfum. I also have the cologne and perfume and some bath powder on order. White Shoulders is very romantic and feminine. I mostly smell lilac, gardenia and tuberose. It's not a heavy fragrance, but it has presence. I always receive compliments when I wear it.

If you like white floral fragrances, you should like this. Personally, I love it and wear it constantly. I recommend buying it online, as it's fairly expensive at the drugstore. A delightfully natural smelling amalgamation of white floral scents - lily, honeysuckle, gardenia, tuberose, and possibly carnation may be a trick of the blending.

Almost impossibly clean and straightforward presentation. Very well done but ultimately unexciting. I do wish the aldehydes had more impact. Almost impossibly clean and straightforward presentation. Very well done but ultimately unexciting. I do wish the aldehydes had more impact. Given its relative weakness in terms of projection it is surprisingly durable as a skin scent. While I prefer a little danger, dirt, or depth, I can't really say anything bad about this one. I can not yet attest to the quality of the current version.

An aldehydic, wax-free and non-powdery tuberose is at the beginning, a pleasant start with a subsequent floral drydown that develops further floral richness. Muguet, a pleasant rose, and Gardenia come to the fore, as well as a slightly deeper orris root with a violet undertone. The base adds a white and fairly light musk note, and, intriguingly, is accompanied by a subtle overarching oak moss that is not as harsh as the classic dominant moss impressions - the great Gucci Nobile being the extreme at the other end of the spectrum of pungency.

The moss blends in very well with the other constituents. The sillage is more on the soft side after the opening; this is a more restrained scent. I get good projection and an excellent longevity of eight hours, albeit very close to my skin towards the finish. A nice daytime office spring scent. This review is for the vintage Evyan perfume of the days before Elizabeh Arden called the shots.

This can be for sweet 16 young lady and also for her Mom and Grandmom. It reminds me a little of Joy but with less rose, and more Jasmine or gardenia. A touch is needed, not to overdo it. Like the caress of form-fitting cashmere, this is a sweater girl fragrance: Once worn by Doris Day, this was the American perfume to put France in its place and--along with Elizabeth Arden, Norell and some others--put American fragrances on the map sorry, Revlon, you were what they were working to overcome.

Vintage perfume, if you can find it, is wonderful and so is White Shoulders powder. Sweater girls of the world, whether vintage icons like Lana Turner or modern day coeds, I salute you! Keep the sweaters coming and if you can find vintage, wear White Shoulders, too! This is one of those fragrances where you must buy the perfume rather than the cologne or toilette to appreciate it. Cologne, even after dry down, has a cheap and biting fragrance. The perfume is a different story.

After the dry down it turns very soft and feminine. This review is for the original Eau de Cologne by Evyan. A likeable fragrance, not as innocent as it appears, but still a little too "pretty" in the drydown for my personal taste. BelliniMartini Show all reviews. Always loved this scent because my mother loved it so much.

As a token of remembrance of her I wear this especially on her birthday and the anniversary of her death. Lizzieduffy Show all reviews. Have adored this since a teenager in the s. I admit it has an almost grandmotherly scent quality to it, but Ive worn it on and off since about It is beautifully feminine I have gardenias and moonflowers in my garden and I cannot ever get enough of that sort of sweet yet fresh scent.

And, on me, White Shoulders has staying power. Cricketkitty Show all reviews. The White Shoulders I remember so well is from the s and s, I do not know if it has been reformulated since. My personal memories are of weddings during that era, the brides always wore this. What I remember is a lovely, delicate floral with a heart of gardenia and tuberose, but never overwhelming as those fragrances can be.

Women of different ages can wear this one, from the youngest preteen to senior citizen. I have some I bought on clearance in Target. Very flowery and, while I like florals, this doesn't work on me. There is one note that doesn't smell good, haven't figured out what it is. Smells cheap and tarty on me. Weimar27 Show all reviews United States. White Shoulders conjours long lost memories and love long forgotten like a message in a bottle from years ago collects our treasured feelings and nostalgic wistfulness; Rose petals lies gently on a alabaster basking in the early summer sun glowing in hues of pale pink and blood red blowing from a rose garden giving a scent of intoxicating spender A summer breeze blows though delicate white lace curtains gives the sweet scent of French lilacs floats in the air and adds an aura of peace and tranquility and Relaxes your Grandmother's white Persian Kitten after playing with her Antique pearl necklace.

This is a wonderful parfume!!!! A fav for a long time, ageless and beautiful! A boy presented a bottle of White Shoulders to me on our first date. I literally thought you could only wear it on your shoulders! Although I have not worn it for many years, I still have a pleasant memory of it--rich, flowery. I ordinary cannot stand gardenia fragrances, but this gardenia is so wonderfully mingled with the other florals that it remains well-behaved and does not become too tropical smelling or gooey sweet.

Also, Tatiana reminds me a tad of this as well. Primrose Show all reviews United States. I can't help but say nice things about White Shoulders.

First off, my husband gave me a bottle as one of my wedding gifts. For me, it evokes feelings of warm weather and romance. Other scents' atttempts at this such as Maitresse by Agent Provateur come close, but this one draws me time and time again. I enjoy florals, esp. I adore the strong scent of the heady gardenia and jasmine, touched with rose. It is warm and very elegant with classic charm. Yumm Show all reviews.

White Shoulders smells good, but doesn't last ten minutes on me. On me this one the Evyan version is a muted gardenia and not much else. When I was younger, I layered it with Jean Nate splash, which gave it a little zip. Gossamer Show all reviews United States. I tried this on my aunt and mother's suggestion, both of whom wore it as young woman and listed it as their all-time favorite fragrance. The top notes are delicious, a very strong floral without being offensive, but as it cools down it can only be described as powery.

The lily of the valley is very present which I like but other than that it smells almost like wet baby powder. Not terribly offensive, nobody's going to gag smelling you, but it's not something I would choose on purpose. You can call this scent "dated" or something out of "grandma's closet' but it sure smells "girly". Women don't understand that feminine scents are a turn on for men.

So many of these new aquatics for women don't smell girly at all.
