KIRKUS REVIEW

How to write a great review. Sarah left all alone in the world adopts the traits of the wolves in order to surv I fell in love with the story of Sarah in Wild Angel. Sarah left all alone in the world adopts the traits of the wolves in order to survive but she doesn't just survive she thrives. No matter how hard she tries she will always feel at home and a closer connection to her wolf family instead of her human family. I could not put down Wild Angel - Sarah's story was incredible, you just have to know what happens to her. The novel incorporates parts of the previous story Wild Angel and the authors various names.

At times, I found myself having to re-read certain parts to ensure I properly understood what the author was trying to portray. Pat Murphy did a really great job intertwining the stories while still making this novel interesting and unique in its own way. Sep 18, Lolly K Dandeneau rated it liked it. The second story is a bit of a fog on the brain, because of the subject. It is strange and complicated. I had a harder time reading and enjoying it. I almost wish that the first tale could be longer. I think most readers will take a shine to Wild Angel the most. Oct 14, Paula rated it it was amazing. Very enjoyable read from two very different novels. The first novel is about a girl, raised by wolves, during the California Gold Rush. This is Tarzan for girls.

Very well done and entertaining book with a straight forward narrative and an interesting plot.

Good characters as well. The second novel is composed of several different genres - science fiction, philosophical fiction, mystery and romance and all of this is taking place on a cruise ship. This is a thinking novel, since the characters appear and disappear, and the plot is intentionally convoluted.

Overall, a nice entertaining read which additionally stretches the imagination. Oct 11, Jerold Farver rated it liked it. Two novellas, two very different stories. The second is a very convoluted on purpose self referential tale of a cruise ship with some very odd passengers.

Questions?

Both of them have the author as a character, the second story multiple times, I think. May have to reread it. All in all, a good read by an author having fun at her craft. Dec 19, Pam rated it it was amazing. I was given a free galley of this book on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Okay, so I wasn't thrilled with this book at first. The first story was this interesting book about a girl being raised by wolves. It was good, but not great. The second book, however, tied in all of the elements from the first and went only up from there.

I really, really enjoyed this read. It leaves the reader with a great deal to think about and a world of possibilities.

Novels | Pat Murphy

Pat Murphy - Patrice Ann Murphy was born in Washington in , and is an award-winning American science writer and author of science fiction and fantasy. She lives in San Francisco. In the Heart or in the Head is a brilliant literary memoir in which George Turner chronicles his chaotic growing-up in a family for whom fact and fantasy were equally acceptable and often indistinguishable. It is also the record of his development as one of Australia's finest novelists and his entanglement with science fiction. Beloved Son told how the world was given atomic power and chose the atom bomb, was given the key to genetic miracles and chose biological warfare.

The world was lucky the first time; enough of it remained for salvaging in a few decades. It was simply unfortunate that in those difficult years a new menace arose-the offer of dreams-come-true in this world, here and now. There was a price of course. What World Council could not realize-and did not properly query-was the immensity of the price, but the offer was one nobody in his right mind could refuse.

Psychiatrist James Lindley recognized the danger of dealing with the Devil but fanatical Police Controller Parker saw it as the Gift of God; Angus, whose name and face changed as often as his coat, saw it as a fine game to be played, while Commissioner Ferendija saw it as an exercise in pragmatism-and Security Tech Sanders lost everything he believed in as the welter of guilt and disillusionment swallowed him whole. Under the pressure of decision the cracks showed in the highest echelons of the proud Ethical Culture. Is there a benefit so great that, if the price were the end of homo sapiens, we would pay it?

George Turner's Beloved Son was the first volume in what is now recognized as on of the outstanding science fiction achievements of the past decade. Vaneglory is its successor; and, though completely self-contained, it develops with gripping imaginative brilliance the characters and situations already established in Beloved Son. A member of the underprivileged "Wardie" class, Detective Sergeant Harry Ostrov has been assigned to serve as a guardian to the mysteriously rejuvenated nonagenarian - and entrusted with a devastating secret that could topple the unstable "Minder" government.

But once within the confines of the Beltane family enclave, the dedicated police officer is dragged deeper and deeper into a lethal mire of scandal, corruption, political outrage, and moral dilemma - sworn to silence even as he observes his nation's ruler, a man ultimately responsible for the future of civilization, descend steadily into depression, uncertainty. Protect a bunch of colonists in the Epsilon Eridani system, whose moon had become a war zone as megacorp-backed mercenaries fought a brutal proxy war.
