The Dark One

He was ready to annihilate Storybrooke, if that meant destroying her. He learned the truth about how he separated with his mother, when Blue Fairy had sent her to Dark Realm, was destined to be Savoir and kill his mother.

After Rumple secretly forges an alliance with his mother in order to retrieve Gideon's heart, he returns the heart and Gideon happily reunites with his parents. Hook prevented Gold from interrupting his wedding with Emma and knocked him with poison from Neverland. The Black Fairy arrives to aid her son, and after Mr. Gold somehow manages to retain his true memories as he had suspicions that his mother could not be trusted.

His son, Gideon, works with him in the pawnshop, and has cursed memories of his mother Belle abandoning him after his birth. Gold plays along with this, especially when Fiona pays the father-son pair a visit, but in secret, he searches for Belle's book and attempts to use it to change Gideon's opinion of the mother who supposedly left him. He suggests that Belle isn't the heartless person that Gideon believes her to be, but Gideon is fed up with his father refusing to accept that Belle left them and reasons that they could be happy if he would just let the past go. Gold asks Fiona to reopen the investigation into Belle's disappearance.

Fiona admits she has been withholding information, however, since he is adamant to know everything, she shows him photographic evidence of Belle happily living overseas. She persuades him to let go of Belle since he could never be the man that she wanted him to be, but he still can be the man that his son needs. Gold tries to stop Henry from entering the shop backroom and even pretends to not know the boy is his grandson, however, Henry goes in anyway to unveil hidden bottles of magic as proof that Mr.

Gold does indeed remember. Gold admits his distrust in Fiona's story about Belle and his plans to find her. Although he refuses to help Henry save Emma's family who are all trapped in the Enchanted Forest, he allows him to take something from the shop to use against Fiona. Gold goes on to use Belle's book to track her to a house in Storybrooke, where she lives in seclusion and is too fearful of going outside. He returns to the pawnshop and confronts his mother with the truth. Fiona insists she did it for his own good since Belle would have turned him away from his darker instincts, but she promises that once the final battle ends, her magic will reach uncharted levels that will allow her to make his family love him without him having to give up his Dark One powers.

She even offers to revive his deceased firstborn, Baelfire, but as tempting as it is, Mr. Gold declines, no longer wanting to pay the price of magic. Gold grabs her wand, using it to magically choke her until she falls to her knees, while vowing to make her suffer for what she's done to his family. Fiona mocks him for thinking that stopping her will end the final battle and instead reveals the message in Henry's Author symbols, in that only light magic can defeat light magic. Gold realizes she has ordered Gideon to kill Emma, Fiona boasts that not even her death can undo the command, to which Mr.

Gold decides to test if she is right by killing her anyway. Together, they venture into the mines to search for Gideon's heart. Together they enter the mines to once again retrieve Gideon's heart and stop him before he can kill Emma. Upon finding the heart and considering the power he could gain from Emma's death, Rumple makes the decision to ignore his dark impulses and commands Gideon to let Emma live.

Gold is holding it in his palm when Rumplestiltskin, a manifestation of his darker instincts, appears to entice him with the possibility of allowing Emma to die at Gideon's hands so that his own magic can reach unprecedented levels and he can have both love and power. Gold refuses out of loyalty to his family, stating that he doesn't want to betray them and that he was destined to be a Savior.

Rumplestiltskin still tries to sway him by suggesting he's destined to change magic with all the unlimited things he could do in this new world, but Mr. Gold declines again because none of it would be real for him. Holding up Gideon's heart, Mr. Gold speaks into it to order his son to stop but to his shock, it doesn't work because the Black Fairy's spell is too powerful. He reveals his failure to Belle, and as she comforts him with a hug, they hear a baby's cry. Upon further investigation of the baby, they realize Gideon has returned to them as a newly restored infant.

Gold, overcome with emotion, believes they now have a fresh start, though Belle heartily corrects him by saying it's a happy beginning. Rumple, Belle and Gideon go on a tour of the realms. Gideon is accepted into Elphame Academy when he turns 18 and Belle translates a fairy prophecy which she believes will enable Rumple to be free of the dagger, that after the Dark One finds eternal love, his dark powers can be removed only when the sun is at its brightest and that it sets in the Edge of Realms where time is frozen.

They travel to the Edge of Realms and build a house there, knowing it may take years for the sun to set. Finally Belle grows old while Rumple does not age. As she is dying Belle confesses the "sun" in the prophecy that is meant to set is not one in the sky, but her. She passes away and Rumple begins searching for the Guardian, who he can surrender the dagger and his powers to, enabling him to die and be reunited with Belle.

Rumple finds some magic his counterpart kept and charms his hand, intending to rip out their heart. He believes he will not be reunited with Belle but determines to do the right thing without reward. When Hook's poisoned heart begins killing him, Rumple removes his own heart and puts it into Hook, healing Hook and killing him and his Wish Realm counterpart.

He is then reunited with Belle in the afterlife. The wish created a whole new duplicate realm, known as the Wish Realm, which consists of alternate versions of the Enchanted Forest characters that come with different backstories for the 28 years after the point in which Regina never got to cast her curse. This includes an alternate version of Rumplestiltskin, another Dark One who never sought redemption through a journey with Belle or Baelfire, as their Wish Realm equivalents had died long before Emma's visit.

During her visit to the Wish Realm, the original Regina confronts Rumple, who has been locked up in Snow and Charming's dungeon for ages. He convinces her that there is no danger in freeing him, as at this point, Regina believes that nothing in the Wish Realm is real. She lets him out after he promises to find her a magic bean, which he indeed delivers the following day. However, a wish Robin shows up and the distraction forces Regina and Emma to miss the portal home.

Shortly after, when Regina and the wish Robin get into trouble with the Sheriff of Nottingham, Rumple shows up and frees them from their cage. Rumple then reveals that he had found out that his version of Belle had died in the Evil Queen's dungeon and all that was left of her was a pile of bones. He then locks Regina and Robin in his dungeon for revenge but the two are able to escape without him knowing.

It is revealed in a flashback that Wish Hook had visited Rumple in his cell many years before the original Emma and Regina's visit. He tells Rumple that he no longer seeks revenge and only wants to free his daughter Alice from her tower. Rumple instructs him to retrieve a magical fish hook from Captain Ahab. Hook is able to obtain it and brings it back to Rumple, however, when Ahab appears to taunt Hook, Rumple is forgotten and left in the cell as the two pirates head off for their duel.

Many years later, just as Gothel's curse breaks over Hyperion Heights, Rumple has found his way to the neighborhood, where his original counterpart is now known as a detective named Weaver. He finds his way to Samdi's office, and when the original Rumple decides not to kill Facilier on the spot, Rumple decides to stab him with the dagger himself.

He then blackmails Henry, telling him that he must deliver the original dagger to him in exchange for their return. Rumple later confronts Weaver in their old hovel, where Weaver is able to temporarily freeze Rumple using squid ink. However, Regina's unexpected arrival gives Rumple the distraction needed to free himself and he leaves right after reminding Weaver of the Seer's prophecy about "the boy" Henry being his ultimate undoing.

When Henry retrieves the Wish Realm's version of the author's pen and obtains the ink needed to activate it, Rumple appears to claim it, revealing that his grand scheme involved the pen all along, and not Weaver's dagger. Rumple then presents Sir Henry of the Wish Realm, who as Henry's counterpart is also able to harness the author's powers and he agrees to help Rumple.

As Rumple wants to keep the darkness fully alive, he orders Sir Henry to get rid of the Guardian's powers. By killing Zoso, Rumplestiltskin acquires the full powers of the Dark One, which makes him very powerful. As Dark One, he is immortal and capable of healing from all wounds. It also possesses superhuman strength and agility, the ability to partially read the future , and powerful magical powers, including telekinesis , teleportating , elementary control, metamorphosis , sleep induction, magical immobilization, energy rays, the ability to tear hearts, protect a place or object magically, or heal the wounds of anyone including himself.

Rumplestiltskin is also a highly skilled swordsman although helped by his magic. He was able to beat Prince Charming and Killian Jones, two competent swordsmen. Finally he is a very intelligent being and an extraordinary manipulator, even without his powers, because he was able to set up an effective plan to seize the Dark One dagger, manipulate events during centuries to be able to find his son and escape the presence of Emma Swan then in the form of Dark One. The producers had been eyeing Carlyle as the right person to play the dual roles, [4] even after having been written with him in mind, though the writers initially thought he would not accept the part.

Horowitz recalled Carlyle's prison sequence in the pilot episode, which was the actor's first day on the set as "mind-blowing You could see Ginny actually jump, the first time he did that character. The Dark Ones (The Dark Ones Saga, #1) by Rachel Van Dyken

Adam Horowitz Eddy Kitsis. Human Dark One's avatar. Detective Pawnbroker formerly Landlord formerly Soldier briefly Farmer formerly. None to explain why humans and immortals apparently coexist in the same world, and why a human's number might be called so they have to go to the immortals to teach them Except everything humans are taught in school about immortals is wrong. Even though they all live together in the same world.

Hell, not even the house the characters live in is described. And aside from a brief physical description of each character when they're introduced in the second or third? Genesis was one of those heroines who does nothing but blush, cry quietly, and be beautiful. She doesn't know she's beautiful, of course.

In fact, her mom told her she was ugly her entire life because of some woman generations back who besmirched the family name. Because random dead relatives tarnishing the family name is totally a thing normal people care about in Oh, and Genesis says "What? Like it's seriously her favorite word. Ethan is her mate, who's standoffish until two seconds later when he turns super possessive. The other immortals a werewolf and two sirens seem to exist only to act as relationship counselors and feed Genesis because Ethan is such a shit mate he can't even stop groping her long enough to let her eat.

They all act like teenagers, and I was genuinely confused at times whether I was reading YA or an adult romance. It was so juvenile. One second Genesis has no idea what's going on and the next she's joking with the immortals like they've always been best friends and she hasn't been taught to fear them her whole life.

Again, this book made no sense. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. In the beginning, Genesis's number is called and she goes to a Where there are some immortals in a room. And they use their powers on her and then this other guy Cassius comes up and touches her. Then suddenly the other immortals take her away like there's some kind of race against time and bring her to their house so Cassius won't find her.

I'm pretty sure he knows where they live though, and he seems to live in the same part of the city because he keeps casually showing up places, so that, again, makes no sense. Even though Cassius is clearly their enemy, he's not. But he's also their friend and brother. And he's not the bad guy, this other guy is.

Once Upon A Time - The Dark One Reveals The Truth

Only the other guy is actually kind of I can't even give quotes because I might as well just link to the book. Great idea, poor execution. View all 35 comments. I was long overdue for a paranormal romance!!! The Dark Ones Saga. The author has created a fascinating world featuring humans, vampires, werewolves, sirens, angels, and other immortals. In a sea of PNR novels that start to bleed together after awhile, you likely haven't read this story before.

It's fast-paced, fun, incredibly sexy, features suspenseful and emotional conflict, and ends with an epi I was long overdue for a paranormal romance!!! It's fast-paced, fun, incredibly sexy, features suspenseful and emotional conflict, and ends with an epic teaser for the next installment which makes the entire saga difficult to put down. Oh, and lucky, lucky you!

Each book in this collection can be read as a standalone. They interconnect with each other in the same paranormal world but each story features a different romance. You can safely start with whichever one strikes your fancy Whatever you decide, just start! To love for a moment than to never experience it.

Why did I not know it even existed? Seriously, I devoured it in one sitting and could get lost in this Dark world for days! RVD had renewed my Paranormal fire! Sep 04, Aira Cabrera rated it it was amazing. ARC provided in exchange for an honest review. The romance was so freaking good, ahhh all the feeeels!!!! I know I know, it was too soon bla bla bla, but I never complain about that happening. It brought me back to those feelings I got when I discovered paranormal books in high school. Genesis has been training all her life to serve ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

Genesis has been training all her life to serve the dark ones. She was supposed to teach their children how to use technology. Kind of like a high class baby sitter. There was always a possibility that her number would be called, but she never really expected it to happen to her. When her number was called, everything she thought she knew was a lie. They needed her for something else.

Genesis has been marked by the dark one, Cassius. Ethan then whisks her away and marks her in order to save her. Some painful events kept him from wanting to get too close to anyone else. She was entirely lovable! This book is very fast paced. I wanted to slow down while reading it. I never wanted it to end. It was just soooo good! That sneak peek at the end for the next book slayed me. View all 3 comments. Jan 22, Kira Simion rated it liked it Shelves: If the Dark Ones are good and bad, why do some seem bad? At the end, why would Cassius have to die if he failed to get Stephanie to love him?

Why wouldn't he just lose his immortal glow? That would be more logical , 3. The book was action packed, but the speed was both its strength and weakness for there was more lust than love. Good fast light read. Sep 27, Tink Magoo is bad at reviews rated it it was amazing Shelves: This was a slightly different take on the whole vampire genre. Throw in some angels, werewolfs and sirens, it had me hooked from the start. Yes it was a bit predictable but who cares. Now I hope we get all their books! Mar 13, Corinne Michaels rated it it was amazing.

I started this book at 9 Pm last night, thinking, once again, that I would just drift asleep. I really loved this one. I love all of Rachel's books, but this had my heart bursting with Ethan and Genesis. I'm so excited for more books in this series! It's like Van Dyken attempts world building in a few scenes, but then gets bored and tosses all that stupid logic stuff out the window in favour of faux 'poetic' lines like ' To start with I thought it was going to be some kind of crazy love quintet , but then two of the guys turned into friends despite their amazing hotness and one of them being an irresistible male siren and we were left with the more 'simple' love triangle.

The original idea was reasonable and could have been a solid three, but the execution was so sloppy and haphazard that it's just barely managed to make it to a two instead of one the editing wasn't bad enough for me to be quite as tough as that. Clearly absolutely no planning went into the plot, otherwise I wouldn't have been left asking questions like "Why are the Dark Ones considered to be the strongest? Why must blood always be shed for balance?

Why was it up to Genesis to decide between Cassius or Ethan? Why was becoming the mate of an immortal so much harder, and more deadly, for men than women? Why do immortals instantly feel the need to bond with their human mates, but the same doesn't happen for the humans unless they are in love with the immortal? Maybe I should have been expecting a below par book when I had trouble with the opening sentence "I was never one to be accused of being patient. When I first finished this I considered looking for the second book in the series, but after reading a couple negative reviews of Untouchable Darkness it doesn't look like the problems I've had with this one are in any way resolved in the next book and I'm not one for masochistic reading well, not much anyway.

So many reviewers talk about Van Dyken's skills with other romance subgenres, so I won't write her off completely. If I happen to come across one of her contemporary romances I would be willing to give it a go, but don't hold your breath. View all 10 comments. Sep 20, Fran rated it liked it Shelves: I really wanted to love this one, but I just couldn't connect with the MCs.

I wasn't convinced of the "love" that they felt for each other. I did like the premise a lot though, but the storyline felt a bit too complicated than it should have been. Maybe it's just me, but overall, it didn't flow smoothly. Aug 02, Christine Shh Moms Reading rated it it was amazing. I love paranormal and Rachel knocked it out of the park. I went in blind, without even reading a blurb, and I was pleasantly surprised by how effortless I fell into it. The story itself was quite interesting; the mix of paranormal beings, fated love, friendship, a few twists.

Lots of possessive and protective asshole alphas. It lacked depth, but what I missed the most was the world building. It wasn't even detailed. Basically I imagined nothing when it came t 3. Basically I imagined nothing when it came to scenery. And believe me when I say I have plenty of imagination. Overall it was an etertaining, light read and I might even continue with this series in the future.

I love PRN because the possibilities of the storyline are unlimited. Van Dyken created a wonderful world, full of action and powers! Van Dyken dared to create a world with faults, heroes with weaknesses and unpredicted situations! The plot is fantastic full with surprises, mystery, action, tension! Everything I love in a great book. The heroes were great as well! I won't give you details about their personality. Let's say this is a PRN sto 5 stars! Let's say this is a PRN story with strong heroes! Powerful creatures full of surprises! The tension among the heroes and their wants and needs was amazing!

I also loved their connection! The end of the story was great! I was surprised, happy and ready for more! I definitely recommend this book to everyone who appreciates vampires, angels, werewolves and any other magical creature! So far it ranked one star, two stars and my stellar DNF. But I am sticking with my policy and not ranking or reviewing a DNF.

Genesis and Ethan When Genesis number is called, she enters the presence of a Dark One, a vampire, a werewolf, and a male and a female siren, Is Genesis the one human who will fulfill prophecy? This is the question that she and the immortals want to know the answer to.

Ethan is the vampire. He marks Genesis to keep her from the Dark One. What Ethan and Genesis discover is they are mates. Because they are mates, Ethan can protect her except when she sleeps. Then the Dark One can invade Genesis' dre Genesis and Ethan When Genesis number is called, she enters the presence of a Dark One, a vampire, a werewolf, and a male and a female siren, Is Genesis the one human who will fulfill prophecy? Then the Dark One can invade Genesis' dreams and tempt her away from Ethan.

Is Genesis' love strong enough to resist the Dark One's temptation, his test? It was probably my expectations, but the beginning of this novel was a bit confusing to me. Once I got the format down, the pace sped up to a nice speed. The pages flew past quickly. The main characters were developed but I wish I knew more of their backgrounds. The secondary characters are a delight and I can see future novels for each of them.

The plot is simple but full of conflict. There are steamy love scenes in this novel. I look forward to future books. Sep 11, Amy rated it it was amazing Shelves: The Dark Ones was no exception and has quickly found a place for its self as one of my top RVD reads. From the moment I read the first page, I knew I was on to something that was going to be exciting, and entertaining. I was completely entranced and spellbound by the characters and the story-line. The story-line was so refreshing and unique. We were given vampires, werewolves, sirens, humans and angelic beings. The Dark Ones follows the story of Genesis.
