There were times when I wish things had been explained a little better. Like how could they basically live in the same village within sight of each other for 9 years and she'd never seen him? I also would have liked to know if he had other relationships during that time. Still pretty fun if you like this trope. This one is part of the Heart to Heart theme, and it fits that perfectly, as this story does pull at the heart.

Even in a novel rife with overdramatic potential, the focus on the ordinary world of Annie remains. I'm always impressed by how real her characters feel even in extraordinary circumstances.
