The Flesh Cartel #7: Homecoming (The Flesh Cartel Season 1: Damnation)

Mat he must have misplaced the other 't' from his name , the older brother thinks he's a lot tougher than he is, and Dougie really? I suppose giving the younger character a child's nickname and calling him a boy, even though he's a full grown man, could appeal to someone who likes to imagine this is a younger character, but I found both names highly annoying to read.

For anyone who doesn't regularly read this type of story, which I do, this will probably seem like something dark and dangerous.

Matt is a pro fighter and his brother Dougie is a college student. One night, after taking a beating in a pro-fight, Matt comes home to find his brother being brutalized by 4 thugs. Matt tries to fend off these thugs but is overtaken and the brothers are hauled off to who knows where.

More unspeakable things happen to them. Didn't really understand the graphic and continuous violence. I suppose this would really ring your bell if you were a sadist or masochist, but for the rest of us it's offensive. It's based on the premise that two brothers were kidnapped, horribly abused and forced to engage in inappropriate behavior continuously and sometimes with each other.

The events in the story are horrible and despicable. There's no adequate forwarning that this is one long brutal rape story. Do people get off on this? It seems like the only thing to do is to find the installment where Mat kicks everyone's ass if there is one , read that, and call it a day. Get to Know Us. Amazon Web Services Goodreads Shopbop. The Flesh Cartel Series by Rachel Haimowitz

And you aren't given an explanation of why they exist, why the brothers were taken, and what the point of all this is, why I should care about these brothers enough to slog through endless brutal rape scenes and torture. This is not erotica. This is a whole other level of whatever the hell messed up thing this is. It's even more disturbing that this came from the minds of two women.

Imagine if a man had written this, and the characters were women. How would you perceive the men who read it, I wonder. I expected this to be dark, disturbing, but the frequency of the rape, and the detail given to it just felt wrong on so many levels. I'd read Anne Rice's Sleeping Beauty series a long time ago, and this series has similar elements to that, but the difference is that there is no single moment of reprieve in The Flesh Cartel. Even in Claiming Sleeping Beauty, there were moments of tenderness.

This is just so completely repugnant with no redeeming factor. You will learn nothing from this other than maybe what erotica would be like if it was written by a complete sociopath who happens to be major sadist. Or a psychopathic serial rapist. This also doesn't have an ending, so you have to purchase the rest of this relatively long series. Since there wasn't enough backstory to make me care about either brother, and I'm not in the mood for more gratuitous rape and violence, I'm stopping here. What can I say This is so well written, I just couldn't put this down!!! I'm not a mm reader, but if this is anything to go by, please bring me more.

I so want Matt to kick somes arse, I really hope in the end he gets his vengeance. I felt so strongly for Dougie, and Matt, what did they do to anyone?. Two brothers fighting to survive in a very cruel world, and then to be taken, used for others pleasure, and to hear each other's suffering. This book is horrific but compel What can I say This book is horrific but compelling all at the same time. I love a book that can create emotion within me.

I wanted to slap Dougie for being so bloody soft, and I loved that Matt would do anything to help Dougie, but I also love that Matt will fight no matter what. I never want him to give up, I never want him to give them what they want, even if they think they've got it.

This is brilliant and I can't wait to read he rest. I'm so glad they've been released as a box set. I'm so glad I've started this series knowing that it's complete. I won't have to wait for publication of the next!!! I'm a reader of romance and though I like my tortured souls as much as the next person I think this was a little too graphic in the torturing department for me.

It was an interesting concept but NO! I didn't feel comfortable reading about it at all. Thank you for the opportunity Riptide Publishing but I'm afraid I'll have to pass on the rest of the series. This is just too dark and harsh for me. Nothing good could come from this I knew going in this was going to be rough so I am not rating this.

The writing was good and so realistic. I think that's why it was so difficult for me. For example, multiple rape scenes that include any orifice with objects or body parts, beatings, verbal and emotional abuse, cutting, caging, drugging victims and etc.

  • Oh, and obviously there is a cliffhanger: So, for some reason I didn't leave a review the first time I read this. Therefore, after reading it again here I go! Even the with it being my second ti Addicted! Even the with it being my second time around, it is still a great read; keeping my attention and sucking me further down the rabbit hole. So much so, I am off to read the next volume in the series! Love the dynamic between the brothers and how we are given multiple points of view Dougie, Mat and a bit of Nikolai's. I cannot wait to read more about Nikolai, and his role in the brothers new lives.

Not to mention, where the authors are taking the story and how far they will push the characters. Jul 25, Blondie rated it really liked it Shelves: I keep asking myself why do I want to read more? The writing pulled me in and would not let go now I need more I want to see where these characters are going and how this series turns out. I hope these two get a break but the author hasn't held anything back so far. Dougie is a PHD student, young and attractive in a shy boyish sort of way. Mat is a MMA fighter large, strong, and Dougie's older brother.

Both orphaned but finally out of the system these two take care of each other. When the Cartel come for Dougie and Mat shows up they decide to take them both which is a blessing and a curse. This book is part one and two of this series and there are many more to follow.

It's not like I was expecting a romantic HEA, after all; but there was just nothing redemptive to be found here. I suppose if I were to read the entire series, we might get to that eventually, but I'm not sure I want to waste the time or emotional energy.

Not exactly sure what to do with this one, therefore no rating. Jun 12, Anita rated it really liked it Shelves: Now THIS is taboo. Exceedingly well written but horrific. It's frightening in the simple yet elegant way it was written. The writer captured the desire to survive such unimaginable conditions for the two brothers and you find yourself rooting for Mat and Dougie.

Though I knew this before I read it, I am still taken aback by the expense for all of the seasons. Sep 29, Candice rated it it was amazing. I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. My heart actually hurt for the two brothers that were kidnapped, brutalized, and sold into slavery.

This is erotica without the romance. However, it's well written, engrossing, and fast paced. Not for those easily offended or under 18 years old. It's certainly well-written and I can't wait to see what happens next, but I hope some of their chores become easier to bear as time goes by.

A very graphic story about two brothers who have been abducted, tortured, and sold off. The writing was good however even though I am a huge fan of the dark, even this one had me clenching my fists. Sep 12, Aman rated it really liked it Shelves: I don't even know what to say about this. Such a hard read. Just brutal but I couldn't put it down! I repeat I will NOT discuss this!! This is how rape culture is born!! To have a whole series essentially dedicated to either the fetishizing or romanticizing of rape and rape torture is pretty horrifying and disgusting to be honest!!

This desensitizes a whole slew of people and it fetishizes something disgustingly horrific!! I want absolutely nothing to do with this! I cannot and will not read this!!

Customers who bought this item also bought

There are some things I want absolutely nothing to do with even if they ARE just fiction, and this is one of them!!! In fact, I know I would absolutely hate to!! I am not judging anyone and to each their own! I DO NOT want to discuss or debate or chat or comment about this in any way, shape, or form whatsoever!! And again, this is in no way a criticism to anyone who wants to read this series OR the authors themselves!! This is MY safe space to talk about or vent about MY personal opinion!!!

Based on story alone, I would have given this series five stars. Based on price alone, I'd give it one. Or less than one, if I could. Balanced out to three stars.

More chapters have been released, which drives the price of the book even higher. Also, I realized my page count included two 'about the author' sections multiple pages each , reviews and advertisements for other books put out by this publisher, and other padding. The amount of padding seems to be going up by the chapter, so the early ones don't have as much. I loved the premise, overused as it is, but this reads like a slashy fanfic story that you can find on any decent internet site for free.

The writing is so-so and the two main characters generate zero sympathy from the reader. Mat he must have misplaced the other 't' from his name , the older brother thinks he's a lot tougher than he is, and Dougie really?
