I would honestly look either terminally ill or recently resurrected in it. I love the coat. I look great in chocolate brown. Which is unusual because I look peaky in most colours and actually dead in several.

The black is very nice too. Without seeing it on someone, though, it's slightly less sexy. I like the coat best in brown I think. This season I will mostly be wearing Orange is great on me. Yup, me too, bring on the orange, red, or bright green. I even made my profile picture orangey. Yep, bright green is good for me, too. I can only do bluish red. Tomatoey red brings up the terminally ill problem again. I think I suit pretty much all bright colours. Black and brown are ok but anything muted is deeply unflattering.

And I hate white, cream and beige. I hate white, cream and beige, too. I like grey, of all shades. I suit just off bright colours best, so burnt orange, teal, auberginey purple, etc. Strong colours are good, generally, apart from bright red. Yellow is good on me, too. I used to hate yellow because of Brownies and all the time I spent looking really ill in the uniform.

But I recently realised that the yellow bit wasn't the problem. It's great for brightening the face. I love white or ivory and look better in that than anything, except that most white clothes make you look like a dentist. It doesn't brighten my face! It makes me look a bit grubby. I found a lovely tunic and nearly bought it the other week, but it had beige flowers so I couldn't bring myself to do it.

My mum gave me a really gorgeous expensive silk scarf that is mainly brown and caramel with splashes of fuchsia pink and bright orange. It's beautiful but it looks awful on me. I've given it to T who it suits perfectly. I don't think, as a rule, that four year olds should be given silk scarves worth a hundred quid but it was really wasted on me. And she is so funny.

Don't take me home! I can't bear it! Maybe all the mad will have burnt out by then. I can wear white and cream quite happily but the moment cream starts to turn to beige I just look dead. That there are people in the world who can wear bright green or yellow makes me feel better. They are the only two colours that really make me look like a corpse, but I stare longingly at them when I see them. I have one beautiful summer dress that is splashes of grass green and white, and while it really doesn't suit me I wear it with abandon. Mainly for the shape - sweetheart bodice with straps, a thin tie belt and pencil skirt.

Makes me feel like a film star. My most flattering colours are red and jade green. But I loathe jade green as it reminds me of eighties glamour clothes rather than lovely disco clothes. I can however do all shades of pink, which came as a shock as I emerged from 10 years of black in the mid nineties. I hope she's very happy and working just as much, I wish her no ill will, but I am glad she's not on my magazines and in my magazines any more. But I do really want them and Tabio do last. Even Little disdains the cream and the white opaques. But then Little is something of a baby rock chick and hates all things pink. And could she look less like Marilyn in Marilyn's jumper? You can get white opaques in Accessorize, I think, for about half the price or less. But maybe last season. Not proper white, but whitish tights. Look at my hair! Look at your hair! We discussed chemical straightening, and because the stylist is also mixed-race with similar hair issues, she didn't dismiss it immediately. That sums up my attitude to dye - my hair's so short that any ill effects will not be lasting as it gets chopped every six weeks. But the last dark dye I put on was a too dark and b accidentally permanent. So now I have a very faint root line at about 4 inches. I don't really want to dye it so dark again as I prefer the natural shade and my hair absorbs semi-permanent dye as if it were permanent.

I absolutely don't want to strip it as it will destroy the hair and as it is long it will be ruined for ever. The only option appears is to get quite a lot of it cut off losing 4inches would still leave it shoulder length and then gradually cut the rest of the dye out over the course of the year. Or just leave it to grow, with increasingly grey roots.

But I think permanent colour will wreck my hair, which is fine, like perms used to wreck my hair in the 80s.

But when I tried semi-perms, years ago when I only had a couple of white hairs, they didn't cover the white hairs. So I don't know what to do. Always keep meaning to get that Lush henna again, hoping that it will turn the white ones pink, so I can have semi-dark, semi Mrs Slocombe hair.

More seriously though, semi-perm colours tend to be nourishing rather than damaging and as you would be dying dark there will be no bleach involved. If I were you I'd toy with wash-ins first until you find the colour you want. If your hair takes any colour permanently as my did then you don't want to risk it being far too dark. Mr32 looks sexy as hell with his distinguished silver temples. Me, I look like an old witch.

My hair does the same thing with semi-permanent dye, hannah. I haven't dared use any since I was about fourteen and accidentally made it all purple for months with a semi-permanent. I have fine hair and the dye made my hair have more volume which was perfect. So Hannah be very careful with removing the dark colour. And Max - I think you should leave the grey for exactly the same reasons Preachy gives.

You'll look all suave and sexy and distinguished. I just don't want to have to put "greying" on my internet dating profile along with "42". Could you get highlights done, Hannah? Perhaps ones that are a bit more subtle than your dyed colour? I'm going grey like my dad, in badgery patches on my fringe and temples.

I thought about highlights had them last year. Since my current earnings are on a par with a 16 year old I just can't justify it any more. But I kinda love my natural colour chestnut with subtle streaks of copper and also I really would like to not mind about the grey. I don't ever want to cut it short again. Not if you look after it well. If it goes the silvery white that my dad went, I shall just get more regular cuts so it looks well cared for, and slather on conditioning treatments. If it would grow in a crazy streak at the front I'd be perfectly happy. Sadly it's showing signs of salt and peppering though. Mine is sort of brown with reddish bits in it, and there's lots of white underneath, but it's still pretty much dark on top.

I reckon I could rock that look. I also wish I had a streak rather than a peppering. I found a grey hair in my fringe once but it seems to have gone. I don't know how that happened. It's the best way to highlight dark hair, a good practictioner will cover up your roots at the same time, too. I couldn't go back to "regular" highlights now. Well that's out then, I'm afraid. I think I've decided to keep the length, but get some shorter layers cut in, this will get rid of inches of the top colour. And yes, I may well brave the grey and not get it recoloured at all. I figure if I keep it this length but get the layers re-cut every couple of months the colour will be out in 18 months max.

The main issue is that after years of piddling around with the colour I've finally realised that the colour I've been after all along with the lovely copper highlights is actually my natural hair!

You are all very lovely. But I should point out that when it hasn't been blow dried by a professional it is all frizzy crazy and witch-like. It's normally 15 times curlier knottier than that. But that sounds so beautiful. I've always wanted curly hair instead of my straight, fine, frizzy nonsense hair.

I want to get my hair cut. What would suit me, those of you who know what I look like? And if you don't know what I look like, what would be a cool but fairly low-maintenance haircut? Thin or thick hair? I think I know what you look like and would suggest a short pixie style as you are lovely and slender and have a delicate face.

I can't see the picture but I was wondering about short. I've had short hair before and rather liked it. Something elfin, although it will probably not help you get served in bars. That would look ace I reckon. I have a very small head, though. Would that make a difference? Am wary of looking like pea head. No, the 'ette has got a weeny head, and had a Mia Farrow cut - it looked fantastic. You just have to up your eye makeup. That is a big issue though. If you aren't the type of person who wants to put loads of kohl on every single day then maybe go with a similar cut but leave it slightly longer on top to add volume.

It looked great and is surely about as low maintenance as hair gets. And the small head thing is a red herring really as you're also not very wide so it's all in proportion.

It was sort of elfin, I suppose. Well, it was sort of scruffy, but I think the idea the hairdresser had might have aimed at elfin. Elfin sounds ridiculous applied to a 42 year old, though, doesn't it? Not when the 42 year old is you. You look very elfin. It works perfectly for a friend of mine without the need for lots of eye makeup and she is pretty much the same age as you.

You in no way look 42 and that's a style that really works on you. Go for it Luc. I wasn't thinking of that short! And if it's that short, you have to have time to have it cut all the time! I remember now, that's the down side. I haven't had my hair cut for well over a year. Oh yeah, the constant need for a hair cut would rule it out for me too. I mean to keep my hair kind of chin length but as I only get round to getting it cut once or twice a year it seldom actually is.

Similarly with colouring it, I use a semi-permanent dye to hide the grey but do it maybe every four to six months instead of every four to six weeks. I think I need something that will grow out attractively rather than bagladyishly. Yeah, but is it good on me? I wish I didn't hate having my hair cut so much. I currently have literally about a foot more hair than I need and six inches more than any sane person is likely to want.

It's below nipple level. And then go mad. Plus, hair grows back ya know. Yes, but growing out short hair means at least a year of looking like a bag lady. Also, all hairdressers will shout 'short, short' at me. It's already long long long? Grow it to your bum. It is really long. I think I look nuts, though. I am 42 and it's styleless. You should go to my hairdresser. She really listens to what you want, and cuts like a dream. But I don't know what I want, mazy! I am not exactly doing the 'certain age' thing, hannah.
