I was not asked, encouraged, or required to leave a review - nor was I compensated in any way. This is a story about Second Chances at a real life.

Jordan was given an ultimatum to pretend to be the son his parents wanted or he is no longer their son. Jordan decides to live his life and leaves his rich family behind and make it on his own. Now he has no family, no job and no money but needs to decide where to go and what to do. That being said, he stumbles upon an idea to visit the rescue ranch which is one of his family's charities.

Once he get to the ranch, he meets the foreman Russ. Jordan immediately finds himself attracted to the man but knows that he is straight. Russ is a cowboy that runs the ranch and has been hurt in the past so he is happy to just live the life he has until a rich pretty boy comes to the ranch looking to help. Russ doesn't want to like or give Jordan a chance but when he sees that maybe he was wrong about him, he doesn't know what to do about it.

I loved that we get both POV's in this story. Hearing what Jordan is going through makes you root for him. Russ was such a grump in the beginning that when he realizes Jordan isn't going anywhere, he has to learn how to deal with him and get over his hang ups. The chemistry was great between them.

THE SECOND TIME AROUND

I loved how they got together and that Russ was so up front with Jordan. Jordan for his part admitted he was a mess but trying to move forward. The angst in this story was good when Russ's old boyfriend comes to town and dealt with pretty quick but it helped move the story. I loved Phyliss and how she treated all the men on her ranch like her own especially Russ.

I thought this story was going to be about Jordan's second chance but it turns out Russ needed one too. The only minus in this for me was the ending, I thought Rowan just stopped. We get the HEA but there was so much more to wrap up in the story. Rowan is a newer author for me and I will definitely be reading more from her in the future. Reviewed by Jodi for Alpha Book Club. What if he has staged this accident? Maybe because he was aware that the vaccine is not going to work.

Lots of people whose dear ones are being victims of the deadliest disease have invested their whole money in the Gen- Stone stocks - Ned and Marty being two among them. After the news of his death starts doing rounds, Nick's bungalow has been set ablaze by someone. Lynn, Nick's wife had a close shave.

Carly Decarlo who writes financial advice columns is now a journalist in the Wall Street Weekly and her first assignment is to do a cover story on Nick. Carley has met Nick personally and for her, he has come across as a genuine person. She too invested her money in his company. Apart from it, Lynn is Carley's stepsister.

After her father's death, Carley's mother got married to Lynn's father. As the story progresses, Carley feels that Nick is murdered. Her doubt is intensified when Dr Boedrick who bought Nick's house where his father used to do experiments meets with an accident just after he passes on to her the information that he has handed over the record of experiments to a red - headed guy. I have read many thrillers. But I could not figure out who was behind the murder though there were many explicit clues. That's the beauty of her craft and maybe because of this I might have immersed myself in the story rather than interrupting my reading thinking who is the culprit.

This book might not be her best but it's worth reading. Mar 29, April rated it it was amazing. Nick ran a biomedical research company, Gen-Stone that purported to be close to having a vaccine that would cure cancer. But then, Nick mysteriously disappears or dies in a plane crash on his way to a business meeting in In this Mary Higgins Clark novel we are introduced to Carley DiCarlo, a reporter who is thrown into the mystery of missing mogul Nick Spencer.

But then, Nick mysteriously disappears or dies in a plane crash on his way to a business meeting in Puerto Rico. Tons of money is found to be missing and the once promising vaccine begins to fail test, making it seem that it is not the panacea is was promised to be.

Moreover, people who thought that their loved ones might be cured, are now bitterly disappointed. Fortunately, she escapes with minor burns. But who is this mysterious person, and what is driving him to seek his revenge? Is Nick really dead or is he living off the money he stole in Switzerland? Did Nick actually steal from his own company, or is someone framing him to take the fall? And is the vaccine really defective or is someone making it appear so? As with all Mary Higgins Clark novels, the mystery is fascinating, and draws you in deeper and deeper.

The characters are compelling and believable, especially our strong female protagonist. I highly recommend it to all my fellow mystery lovers. Sep 04, Boremomsn. Com rated it liked it. First book read for this author, was a good read, went fast, but it was a bit more work to get through than it should have been - knowing what I know now, I should have stopped at this one instead of going to her earliest work and reading her as she wrote her books. Too much Harlequin romance type characters is what I don't care for. On the other hand, she is good at building the story to a crescendo and then pulling the story together.

Overall, I don't recommend this author to anyone and the hy First book read for this author, was a good read, went fast, but it was a bit more work to get through than it should have been - knowing what I know now, I should have stopped at this one instead of going to her earliest work and reading her as she wrote her books. Overall, I don't recommend this author to anyone and the hype that says Higgins Clark is the queen of mystery is just plain wrong.

I'm not much of an Agatha Christie fan, but if anyone was the queen of mystery, it would be her. Higgins Clark, certainly no where close to being the queen of any genre is more like an author who writes a romance story with a little mystery tossed in. Oct 23, Kathy rated it it was ok. I enjoyed this book -- it had an interesting plot with multiple bad people which made the outcome difficult to predict.

I gave it a lower rating due to the flaws in research the author made. I know this is fiction, and Multiple Sclerosis does not play a major role in the story; however, Mary Higgins Clark chose to include MS without knowing even the basics of the disease. MS is not a birth defect but an autoimmune disease. Although children can be diagnosed with the disease although rare , they I enjoyed this book -- it had an interesting plot with multiple bad people which made the outcome difficult to predict.

Although children can be diagnosed with the disease although rare , they are not born with it. Also, an MRI would show lesions or scars on the brain and spinal cord not sclerosis cells. I feel that an author, even when they are writing fiction, should research the facts of any real issues they write into their story. Who was involved in trying to harm him? Jun 19, Betty Ann Baer rated it really liked it. This mystery doesn't give away too many clues as to who the guilty parties are. The company goes broke and the man goes missing, and the journalist is like a detective and trying to find out all the answers. Classic MHC feel, but I think some of it should have been expanded upon.

The ending felt rushed and there were several elements touched upon that were never fully fleshed out. It's a good read, though, and if you like MHC I'd recommend picking it up. Nov 20, Sandra rated it really liked it.
