But even as ambitious and dishonest as she was, my heart still went out to her--at the end of the day, she was doing what she needed to do to survive, as well as maintain a sense of autonomy and dignity.

Virtually all of the men in her life objectified, used, and disregarded her, and kept her in poverty for many years, and if Katherine lied a little--or a lot--to make a place for herself in the world, I think a lot of the readers can forgive her. What makes The Constant Princess a unique story is Katherine herself. She was an incredible woman, made more incredible by the feats she was able to attain during her time in power. Her determination, will power, and belief in herself allowed her to accomplish almost impossible feats and made reading her story and perspective a joy to read.

Overall, The Constant Princess was the perfect book for me to read as my first venture into this new genre. If you enjoy slower paced books, history, and a kickass main character then The Constant Princess is the book for you. My son gave me this book for Christmas. I haven't read any Philippa Gregory books before, but have wanted to read them. This was a fascinating look at her life, and I was reading about her on Wikipedia also.

The author's interpretation of events was fascinating, I knew this was a fictionalised version of history. It was also interesting reading about life in King Henry's court. It has been a while since I read historical fiction and this book reminded me why it is one of my favorite genres. I found Catalina's story to be very intriguing and where others felt it dragged, I wanted several parts to be expanded upon and felt like I didn't get enough of her story.

Its the first book I've read from this author and she does a wonderful job telling this historal fiction book. I sometimes have trouble getting into these kinds of books but I fell into this one.

Her plan never wavered and she succeeded. I really didn't like the way the book ended so now I'm going to do research and find out the whole story of Katherine. I guess that's a good thing about reading historical fiction. If you enjoy the characters you want to dig more into their story and find out more. A very good read. I really enjoyed The Constant Princess, even if I think that Philippa Gregory's books are better when from a first person point-of-view and not switching from third to first.

I was hoping to finish this book and concentrate again on the college, but unfortunately now I must read the second one right now, because I need to read Catalina's speech. I've read The Other Boleyn Girl and was disappointed because it was a trashy version of good historical fiction. Which is probably why it was a best-seller.

But then I read Virgin Earth a book not part of the Tudor series , and I absolutely loved it, giving Gregory kudos for her excellent research and story line. When challenged to complete series' I'd started, I decided to give the Tudor series one more try. Everything I'd ever read or watched about Queen Katherine made her holy and meek, but Gregory paints a different picture. And given the events surrounding her life, I daresay a more accurate depiction. She is tough, and stalwart and sticks to her convictions.

I like this Queen Katherine and I really liked this book. Reading about her years before Henry chose Anne Boleyn to replace her, was very helpful in not only understanding more about this remarkable woman, but gaining a better perspective on the events that followed. Yes, Gregory had to choose her view of the "truth," and that may upset some readers, but it did make sense as a basis for the known truth that followed. I can't fault the author for making that judgement call. All in all, this book was much more my style than The Other Boleyn Girl , and I look forward to the other books in the series.

I am a fan of historical fiction, and this did not disappoint. The book held my attention from beginning to end. We are studying authors of the British Renaissance in my English class, so reading about monarchs of the time was very interesting!

I will definitely read The Other Boleyn Girl , the 2nd in this series. And I need to watch The Tudors! I continue to be fascinated with this historical series, and time period, which ties in well with the historical plays of Shakespeare, my other current reading interest. Gregory's emphasis on the personalities and strengths as well as weaknesses of the historical figures makes them come to life. I'm not sure I liked how Catherine of Aragon was portrayed in this novel.

She's very conniving and ambitious in this book. I also didn't care for the amount spent on the Arthur and Catherine relationship, the author gave them this grand romance and that just didn't appeal to me.
