I told you so, said Marcus Vitruvirus Pollio A shiny surface and a tainted past The actress and the spin-doctor Of pea-soup, dangers of coffee in the morning, and the test of Mr Marsh To take back the future Acknowledgements Bibliography Notes. At Chalmers he has devoted much time to teaching and curriculum development for the first year chemistry courses and recently he has made a number of popular science podcasts for Chemistry World magazine.

His main research interest is in Metal-Organic Frameworks, which are new types of potentially porous materials with budding technological applications, especially in green and sustainable chemical manufacturing.

The Last Alchemist in Paris is recommended for those with more than a passing interest in science, people willing to take the time to slow down and follow the explanations provided with each equation and to appreciate Ohrstrom's enjoyment of the elegance of chemistry drawing. Some eight years ago I sat down to draw out a blueprint for a book that should tell stories about how the chemistry of individual elements of the periodic table had changed, for better or for worse, the courses of ordinary peoples' lives. Several things motivated me; I was sitting on a number of stories where literature and history intersected with chemistry that I would love to tell to a bigger audience.

A strange collection of little known historical anecdotes as they relate to chemical properties of various elements and the uses of those elements. A lot of hard science related in a conversational style which makes for a fun read with the added aspect of new data on a subject I never really liked in school.
