The story is cute, but the author's happy illustrations are what really make this tale a delight. Jan 16, Shakira Hussain rated it really liked it. This is a great book for teachers to introduce the concept of time in Maths in Early Years. It is a very fun book to read as 'o'clock' is repetitive throughout the book and so, the children will easily pick it up as you go along. It refers to routine daily activities that all children will be familiar with.

The illustrations are playful, the intertextuality is clever, and the story is a charming one that lends itself well to expressive reading.

This is a picture book that should be better-known.

Aug 24, Chiara rated it really liked it. Many characters from fairy tales are involved in this story. Kids will learn to tell the time while enjoying a delightful story about Mr Wolf. It's his birthday; he believes his friends have forgotten. The text itself is a character. It is fluent and features onomatopoeia. Cute illustrations, have fun spotting all characters.

May 19, Jan Rue added it Shelves: Written by Debi Gliori, This is a great picture book about it being Mr. But he thinks everyone in the forest has forgotten. There is no cake, no presents, no party. It is sad for him. When he goes to his cupboard it is bare, and the dish ran away with the spoon - and on goes the story talking about the different children rhymes.

In the end Mr. Wolf believes everyone forgot his birthday but they all end up surprising him with a party. It is a great story to have kids look at a different perspective of the nursery rhymes. The illustrations are great too. This would be a great mentor book to use in kids working with rhymes and perspective in their writing skills.

Debi Gliori incorporates telling time, nursery rhymes, and classic fairy tale and nursery rhyme characters into one book! On top of that, there is a lesson on friendship that surely benefited a couple of my students who are struggling to be friendly to their peers. It was fun reading the story to my kids and seeing which nursery rhymes they are familiar with and which ones we need to learn Not only is this book adorable and entertaining, but there are so many lessons that can be taken out of it!

It was fun reading the story to my kids and seeing which nursery rhymes they are familiar with and which ones we need to learn. This is a book that can be linked with several subjects, including math. Some of my second graders are still not able to tell time!

This book supplies visuals and would be a a good start to a review on how to tell time with the hour and minute hand and what time of day the clock indicates. Except while out running his errands, no one wishes Mr. Wolf a happy birthday, but instead keep asking, "What's the Time, Mr. Wolf's friends be up to something? I could use this books in ways other than just reading the book. It is a perfect example of learning time Gliori, D. It is a perfect example of learning time and also being able to understand the difference between the times of day and morning versus afternoon. The book would also be fun to ask children if they recognize any familiar characters, because it sure is full of them!

This engaging children's book follows Mr Wolf as he meanders through his day ,whilst keeping tabs on the time. The flustered wolf becomes irked in response to his friend's larking. The engaging narrative is appropriate for year one to three children in my opinion.

It provides a superb visual and auditory experience for kids who are on the verge of learning the basics of time.

I really enjoyed this book. It is warm, loving and perfect for key stage one children. I will definately introduce this in my classroom. Your child can learn the rules by watching a dry run first. Then you can play for real. An important thing to learn is that you don't always win. It can be good for young children to win, to give them confidence but learning to lose is important too.
