I see it as mostly food for thought, more than a need to do right now. I could move to a part of the world where this sort of thing really is a way of life. The book is aimed at holding one's own ground in a world were an event of such horrific proportions has rendered the US incapable of enforcing the Rule of Law, at least at one's location. The author tackles the subject matter in a straight talk manner, never giving away to hyperbole or attempting to cash in on the zombie apocalypse hype. The book is easy to read, and progresses neatly from one topic to the next, quite often building off of previous concepts.

Final thoughts and comments

I have no real life experience in this, but my gut reaction is that this guy is on the level. The worksheet was easy to follow and use, even if my results were distressingly poor. The drawings were clear and easy to read, but the photos weren't as clear or sharp. This is one of those books if you have interest in the subject, but aren't an expert, it will cover the basics and leave you with food for thought.

Dec 04, Ryan rated it liked it Shelves: Well written, mostly instructional on how to set up perimeters and zones of control. Better intro into the subject for people who have become preppers but don't have an idea on homestead defense. Not enough info on food storage, off location caches, or fuel storage. Jun 07, Steve rated it liked it Shelves: The introduction of a spreadsheet based rating system is thought provocative, though there is no explanation offered for the internal ratings or scales provided for comparative.

There are some notes about city preppers but there is not really allot of information. It is not geared toward your back woods survivalist, however that's me and I still took away a few good things from this book that I will implement. So would I buy the book again, yes absolutely if for nothing more than this guys perspective and the few things I took from his writing. It is not the holly grail of defense manuals, or prepper literature.

Would I fill out the worksheet again, not a chance. It didn't do enough for me. My suggestion, read the book, then decide whether you want to go back and fill out the worksheet, which can be downloaded online and filled out on your home computer. Hope this was helpful and if anyone has any question please feel free to ask. Hi, thanks for that review, I recently got the book and started reading through it, haven't got very far though.

I think that for me, a middle-class housewife who needs to think things through and learn things I haven't before, it's a good book so far. I need help to think beyond gardening, canning, animals, etc. I already have come across new terms so obviously I do need work in this department!

See a Problem?

I had seen his books on Amazon but didn't want to buy until I knew more about them. I listened to a podcast with him andJack Spirko and then I decided to get them. I'm glad to read your review and I think I'll take your advice and read through it all, and then decide whether to fill out the worksheet or not.
