More by Helen Wells. Cherry Ames, Student Nurse. Cherry Ames, Flight Nurse. The newer printing of these books re-introduces older girls like me and a new generation to a quaint, simple mystery novel. These books do show the stereo-typing present in the era they were originally written, but they have their endearing qualities. If you are looking for a gift for a mother, aunt or grandmother who is a retired nurse or close to retirement, one of these books might be a refreshing throw-back present to think about purchasing.

Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. I love reading these 4 differnet books. Cherry Ames surely had a very interesting and a variety of nursing positions while still young. I like the way Cherry is aware of the mysteries in these books and showing caution in solving them. I will continue to read the rest of her books up to Book I read all of these as a teen and it was part of my nursing career path. The ideas are quaint. But the nursing caring is not. Just fun to read. I use these books for book report books for my Health Science Students.

It lets them discover the different areas that nurses can go into. These books are well written and keep the students attention and interest.

We have had some great discussions about them! One person found this helpful. The Cherry Ames novels tend to be a little less interesting as they go on.

I still think the first four are the best. They still show the variety of possibilities available to nurses, most of which are still options today. Even though I am a physician, I was still surprised by some of the options available to nurses that I hadn't thought of. As a physician, it's interesting to see a historical snapshot of medicine in the 30's's.

These stories appealed to me as a young girl when I found them on an aunt's shelves, and they are still fun to read. The series of 4 books in this boxed set provided perfect reading for teens and for parents trying to understand 20 something girls. You can't go wrong with this series of books by Cherry Ames. They bring solid old standards to the forefront for young girls.
