Virology: Principles and Applications, 2nd Edition
Following a chapter on origins and evolution of viruses there are chapters on emerging viruses, and on viruses and cancer. The longest chapter is on bacterial viruses reflecting current interest in them as vectors for cloning. A full chapter is devoted to HIV and describes what is currently known about this intriguing virus. With all this new knowledge on viruses it is hardly surprising that therapeutic approaches are being developed for prevention and treatment of viral illnesses.
Chapters on vaccines and on antiviral drugs describe cutting-edge knowledge regarding therapeutic agents being developed for protection against virus infections. The last chapter is on prions, which are not viruses, but are considered along with them.
